How important is the word of God.

  • 2 Timothy 3: 16-17.

"All the Scripture IS inspired by God, and useful to teach, to remake, to correct, to instruct in righteousness, so that the man of God may be perfect, fully prepared for every good work."

In this passage I have emphasized the word "is" used there and which, as we probably know, is used to identify, characterize or describe something. Therefore, according to the previous passage, the Bible or the Scripture IS inspired by God or, as it says in the Greek text, by the breath of God1. This means that the author of the Bible is God, who inspired it, produced it and therefore the Bible is the Word of God. Apart from that, the above passage also says that the Bible IS useful, counting four reasons for it. More analytically, it tells us that the Bible is useful for teaching, for correcting, for correcting, and for instructing in righteousness. So, and since the title of this article is: "The Word of God is:", we already have several things that the Word of God is. The first one refers to the identification of the Word inspired by the Bible; while the second, the usefulness of this Word to teach, correct, correct and instruct in justice "so that the man of God may be perfect, fully prepared for every good work."

The Word of God: what God has greatly magnified.
I think there would be no better way to start this research than by listening to the opinion that God has about His Word. To see that opinion, we go to Psalm 138: 2.

  • Psalm 138: 2
"Because you have magnified [referring to God] your name, and your word above all things."

Bearing in mind that there is nothing greater than God, which His name expresses, we can easily understand that what God wants to tell us is that He has magnified His Word above everything else. If then we want a correct evaluation of the value of the Word of God, here is the evaluation that God himself has made: for Him there is nothing more valuable than His Word.

The Word of God: the food for life
Having seen the high position that God gives to His Word, let us continue to see other things that the Word of God is, beginning with Matthew 4: 4 where Jesus Christ said:

  • Matthew 4: 4

"It is written:" Man does not live by bread alone "

Many people think that bread and physical food in general is all that is needed to live. It is true that physical food is necessary to survive and satisfy our physical hunger, but according to Jesus Christ, there is something else that is needed to make our lives more than just survival. What is it? The answer comes in the same verse:

  • Matthew 4: 4
"It is written:" Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. "

According to this passage, to make your life a life in abundance and not just survive, what you need is "every word that comes from the mouth of God," that is, the Word of God. As in 1 Peter 2: 2 it says:

  • 1 Peter 2: 2
"Desire, as newborn children, the unadulterated spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up for salvation,"

Newborns can not live without milk. They get up when they sleep and cry because they want milk. Similarly, as newborns can not live without milk and our lives without the Word of God. We do not have to decide if we need the milk of the Word of God or not, it is a FACT that we need it. Just as it is a fact that physically to survive we need to eat something, for which it is a FACT, an unaltered truth, that to truly live we need the Word of God.

The Word of God: the truth
After we saw that the Word of God is as necessary for our lives as milk is for newborns, we will continue to see what else is the Word. What we are going to read happened during the investigation of Jesus before Pilate (John 18: 33-38). During that investigation Pilate asked a question that probably had already been asked by many people since then. Pilate asked that question by answering Jesus saying that he came into the world to bear witness to the truth (John 18:37), and can be found in John 18:38:

  • John 18:38
"Pilate said to him: What is the truth?"

Pilate's question is not at all uncommon. Many people, and in fact many of us, may have asked at some point in our lives. Therefore, it is vital to find an answer to that question. The answer comes in John 17.

There Jesus Christ a little before his arrest prayed to God and said:

  • John 17:14, 17
"I have given you [the disciples] your word ..... Sanctify them in your truth; Your word is truth."

The answer to the question about the truth is very simple: THE WORD OF GOD IS TRUTH. The Bible, being the Word of the one and true God, is the truth on which we can base our lives without the fear of being disappointed. It is that Word that speaks of Jesus Christ, "the way, the truth and the life" (John 14: 6) and of the wonderful things that he accomplished for us. It is that Word that says that if you confess the Lord Jesus and believe that God raised Him from the dead you will be saved (Romans 10: 9). It is not just a positive phrase, it is not another religious word; it's true. If you do it you will be saved and if you do not do it surely you will continue without salvation. The truth is true. You can not change it, you can not alter it. It is UNALTERATED. You can only accept or reject it.

On the other hand, lies have a thousand facets. Hundreds of ideas, philosophies and religions go around claiming a place in our minds. The period of a lifetime would be enough to count the birth and death of dozens of them. Man needs to continually update his philosophies and theories to be "in agreement" with time. If they had been true they would not need updating. The truth is still true today, tomorrow and after a thousand or millions of years. And the WORD OF GOD, the truth, is the only one that has eternal duration. As in 1 Peter 1:23 it says:

  • 1 Peter 1:23
"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God that lives and abides forever."

Also * 1 Peter 1:25
"But the word of the Lord stands forever. And this is the word that has been announced to you through the gospel. "

The Word of God remains forever. It does not need updating. The God who endorsed that Word more than two thousand years ago, is the same God today. As in James 1:17 it says:

  • Santiago 1:17
"Every good gift and every perfect gift comes down from above, from the Father of lights, in whom there is no change, nor shadow of variation."

Sometimes a few minutes are enough for man to change his mind. "Variation" is very common in man, but with GOD there is none, not even the remotest sign of it. The Word of God being true and backed by a God that does not change is certainly the most secure foundation for our lives and the only thing we can learn from without fear of our failing.
