My greetings to the parishioners of #steemchurch and @sirknight for this wonderful initiative to spread the word.
The most common or widely used prayer given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ which is supposed to be our guide when we decide to commune with our father. This prayer, common as it is, is probably one of the first prayers we learn when we are young but without depth.
I remember when I was younger in Sunday school, reciting this prayer and missing words but rather I’ll just hum the melody instead of keeping quiet. Yeah, it was fun then but now that we are mature and truly understand what it means, I want to ask
HOW MANY OF US FOLLOW ITS GUIDE WHEN PRAYING??
Do we just jump in the bandwagon and chant all day long?, are we ever truly grateful for our day?, are we forgiving to our neighbours?
Let us first have a glimpse of the passage in the bible where it is stated
Matthew 6:9-13 **This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”**
PRAISING THE ALMIGHTY
First off, Christ Jesus highlighted the need to give praise to the Almighty. He made us understand from the passage that our first words when we have it in our hearts to pray should be to give him all the praise and worship his magnificent name.
HIS WILL ABOVE OURS
Also, the next statement tells us that we should value the will of God above ours. This simply means that we should always ask God for what he thinks of our plan, and ensure that it is what is in accordance with His word that we do. This will keep us in the path that he has predestined for us and will save us from a lot of unwarranted mishaps and misfortunes in life.
ASKING FROM THE ALMIGHTY
Then it also goes to tell us that we should ask from God what we desire in life. “Our daily bread” in this context can be translated to mean more than our food but our necessities as humans in our everyday life. And we are to ask in accordance with his will for us.
FORGIVING WHILE ASKING FOR FORGIVENESS
Then also, one of the most important point in this guide is the act of acting for forgiveness, which I wrote about in an earlier article. It basically tells us that we should ask for forgiveness from God after we have forgiven our neighbours who have offended us. This is where most Christians get it wrong. You cannot be holding a grudge against another and expect the Almighty to forgive you your sins. You have to lighten and ensure that your heart is free from any grudge before you decide to pray to the Lord.
PROTECTION FROM THE EVIL ONE
And then the last and final part, which tells us to ask the Lord to give us tests according to our strength and to protect us from the evil one. This in itself is self-explanatory as it basically says we should ask for protection from God and to be given what we can bear.
This is just a little scratch off this passage and I believe a lot more can be extracted from it. So do well to comment and add your own valuable contribution.
Another thanks to @sirknight and the parishioners of #steemchurch for their contributions and strength.
Thanks for reading and God bless.
I also remember that I was the greatest prayer of all prayers, reasons been that it encompasses everything we humans would ever ask for. Is it forgiveness, our food, clothes, protection, just name it,it is the best and the simplest way of praying. Thanks @xinese for this post.
