Text:john 11:25

"l am the one who raises the dead to life! Everyone who has faith in me will live. even if they die.”
(Contemporary English Version)

God speaks ever y time but we hardly know how powerful His word really is. If we can understand the potency of God's word as a weapon, then we will take it as the very air we breathe. The problem is not just that we do not believe it, most of the time we do not even understand it. This lack of understanding makes us go through needless pains and unnecessary delay.

Only once in the bible are we told that Jesus wept; when he stood at the grave of Lazarus. Jesus did not weep because Lazarus had just died and was already buried before he came to Bethany, He wept because man was not supposed to die, but the fall in the Garden of Eden made man subject to death.

Scripture records the story of Lazarus’ death in John 11:21-44. Jesus arrived in Bethany four days after Lazarus died and was already put in a tomb. Martha told Jesus that if you had been there her brother would not have died. And Jesus said to her,

"Your brother will rise again."
But Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."

But Jesus said to her, "i am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" Martha, not understanding that Jesus is life himself said to him "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world," but the bible says that after she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary aside."The Teacher is here,” she said, “and is asking for you." When Mary came she repeated that if Jesus had come earlier, her brother will still be alive.

At the tomb of Lazarus Jesus wept. Some thought it was because he loved Lazarus so much, and even wondered how he could not keep Lazarus from dying seeing, that he has opened blind eyes in the past, healed crippled feet and made lepers clean.

When Jesus ordered the stone to be taken away from the tomb, the same Martha whom Jesus told that her will live was the first to protest that after four days there will be a bad odour. Jesus had to ask her again.

Are you like Mary and Martha? Do you wish and hope when God’s word says your miracle is now? Jesus meant that Lazarus will live at that moment, but his sisters had given up and were wishing for the life after. God’s word is always the word for the now, but it is up to us to understand, believe and act on the word.

In the valley of dry bones, God told Elijah that the dry bone would live but he needed to prophesy life to them, Elijah did not ask many questions, instead he spoke and the bones came to life, bone to bone, joint to joint. How much of God’s word do you really believe and is He even speaking to you now but have you settled for less?
