The first commandment that God gave and which contains a promise was: the commandment to honor the parents.

That was a simple command from God, written with his own hand, and delivered by Moses to them; it was of a moral nature, and an eternal obligation: and in order to be understood better, it does not refer only to that high esteem in which children carry their parents in their hearts, and to respectful language, appropriate gestures used towards them, as well as the joyful obedience that will be given to them; but it also refers to honoring them with their substance, feeding them, dressing them and supplying them with what is necessary for life, when they are in need; which is for all the service, for all the care, expense and problems that have been presented to them, as well as having raised them in this world.

(Mark 7: 11-13)But you say: It is enough for a man to say to the father or the mother: It is Corbán (which means, my offering to God) everything with which he could help you, and you do not let him do more for his father or for his mother, invalidating the word of God with your tradition that you have transmitted. And you do many things like these."

The word offering here is the word Corban that the Lord used speaking to those Jews who did not honor their parents. Basically what those Jews said to their parents was "anything you can benefit from me: my property, my income, is Corbán, that is, dedicated to God and I can not give it to you". This was an oath they used to do not to help their parents. They made oaths dedicating everything to God, and therefore they could claim that they had nothing to help and in that way they had no obligation to such support towards their parents.

"If once having dedicated his property he declared that it was" Corban, "or a gift to God - it was not right, not even to use that good, to support a father. If a father was in need or poverty, and had to ask the son for help, and the son responded, even annoyed, "it is dedicated to God; this property that you need and which can help you benefit from me, is "Corbán" - I have given it to God - "the Jews said that the property could not be claimed, and the son was not obligated to help the father with she. The son had already done something more important having given it to God. The son was free. He could not be asked to do anything for his father after that. And in that way, he could, at some point, rid himself of the obligation to obey his father or his mother (Albert Barnes' Notes on the Bible, Albert Barnes (1798-1870))

In world today, respect for the elderly has drastically reduced and this has account to untimely death of many youngsters.
We should learn to obey God and honour our parents

Honoring parents involves high esteem, reverence and help. It means being there to look after them, take care of them. Compared to the other commandments, where no specific promise is directly attached, God, in giving this commandment also added a certain promise. He said: "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may lengthen in the land that the Lord your God gives you." But it did not end there. In Deuteronomy 5:16 the same commandment comes but with an additional promise attached:

Deuteronomy 5:16
"Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you."

Paul repeats the same commandment in Ephesians 6: 2-3

Let show some love to our daddies and mummies

In the wisdom of God a test of a man leads to the honour and those test are promise the Lord made to attached. We should try as a Christian to honour our parents not necessarily only our parents but who so ever is older than us.

Thanks for sharing this with us, this is one of the greatest commandment,God will not honor those who will not obey His command to honor their parents. If we desire to please God and be blessed, we should honor our parents. Honoring is not easy, is not always fun, and certainly is not possible in our own strength. But honor is a certain path to our purpose in life—glorifying God. “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord” (Colossians 3:20).

It is a command from God to honor our parents with all that honor can include. This commandment was so important that whoever spoke something bad about their parents was going to die. Yes, today we live under the age of grace but the commandment of the Lord and His promise are there. And the challenge is there for us too:

Ephesians 6: 2-3
"Honor your father and your mother, which is the first commandment with promise; that it may go well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. "

Mending sets aside time for individuals particularly when we've put our chance and life into someone else. This is the thing that makes it difficult for individuals to proceed onward.

The only commandment that has the promise of a blessing attached to it.
This is why we are to treat it with care and delicacy. So as to avoid angering God but making sure we get the reward promised to us.

He the lord knows how important it is to honour your parents and he gave us the commandments to honour our parents.
Those who find means and time to honour theit parents will always be honoured and the glory of God shall always be with then in all they do every time of their life.
God is wonderful for keeping our parents alive and that's a great thing to hear and we should always be proud of our parents all the time for we are previliaged to have them

Respecting guardians includes high regard, adoration and help. It implies being there to care for them, deal with them. Contrasted with alternate instructions, where no particular guarantee is straightforwardly joined, God, in giving this rule additionally included a specific guarantee. He stated: "Respect your dad and your mom, that your days may protract in the land that the Lord your God gives you." But it didn't end there. In Deuteronomy 5:16 a similar charge comes yet with an extra guarantee joined:

Ephesians 6: 2-3

"Respect your dad and your mom, which is the main instruction with guarantee; that it might run well with you, and that you may live long on the earth. "

No matter how our parents behave to us, we are commanded to honour them. One thing about God's commandment is that, It brings about fulfillment of promises to them that diligently follow the instructions given by God.
God has promised us for a long life, but He also required us to honour our parents so that our days may be long

Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise,
Ephesians 6;2

Any tyke who respects and obey guardians is guaranteed long life on earth. Long life is made available to those that took it upon themselves to honour their parents

We are commanded to honour our parents and those that are older than us

Truely the first commandment with a promise of long life, honour means settinh the in a higher field set them up on another pedestal and respect their presence abd authority in the best way we should.

But we are instructed to ‘honor your father and your mother’ in the Ten Commandments. It isn’t a choice we make or something we do when we feel like it. It is a direct command from God. Scripture gives weighty importance in both the Old and New Testament to this matter (Ephesians 6:2-3, John 8:29, 49; 17:4), so we better listen up!

It is a command from God to honor our parents with all that honor can include. The commandment to honor our parents is the first commandment with promise and in truth what promise: To live a lot on earth and to do well! Most people would not want anything more than this! Well, that's the promise. It is not unconditional! It is conditional and will be granted to those who honor their parents

This is so key in the write up because that's the only way we can live up-to God's plan of age for us
It is a command from God to honor our parents with all that honor can include. Notice that the commandment does not say, "Obey your father and your mother." This is because honoring not only includes obedience but also goes beyond it. Honoring suggests adding to, glorifying, embellishing, and decorating its object. Obedience can be given in a resentful manner, but honoring requires admiration, respect, even reverence. This quality must be within one's heart, and it is acquired and built upon through thoughtful consideration, even meditation, on the sacrifices and gifts that the parents give to the child.

interesting historical background to the story..thanks for sharing

the promises of God are to share and fulfill them to achieve spiritual happiness by doing their deeds.

We must show our parents the same love that God shows for us! thanks for your simply beautiful publication

Very nice and wonderful post.
If only we could love and obey our parents our days on earth will be long.
And also our own children will love and obey us.
We should always try to make our parents be proud of us, we should always listen to their advice, for with it we shall grow and become great parents and leaders tomorrow.
God has ordered us to always obey our parents, for obedience is better than sacrifice.

While children are an inheritance from God to their parents, parents are a blessing to their children who God through them brought them into this world to fulfill purpose. Truly, Obeying our parents is a must for everyone who has come to the knowledge of truth and love. However, someone may say, "I don't have a parent(s)-- perhaps, his or her parents are no more. For such, every elderly around him or her deserves their sincere respect and love.
Thanks for sharing this lovely post @yridelys.
