Development is starting to inch forward again on Steem-Roller.com with a bunch of changes both big and small coming to the site in the near future. Winter is here once again in central Canada and with it comes an opportunity to focus on projects left unattended for the most part all summer.
The largest things coming to Steem-Roller.com here in the not to distant future are a completely revamped ( and prettier ) GUI as well as a free STEEM faucet that pays out every 5 minutes, based on amount of bets and STEEM wagered. A release date for the upcoming v0.7.3 of the site isn't exactly known yet but aiming for before the end of October / early November.
Free STEEM Faucet Rewards!
In the upcoming v0.7.3 you'll be able to click the "Faucet" button and receive some STEEM with a maximum of 1 STEEM every 5 minutes to those who've earned it.
You can earn better faucet payouts quite easily by rolling on the site. A breakdown of how the payouts will be calculated can be seen below.
A basic explanation of this goes as such: For every STEEM wagered by the user they get an additional 0.00000001 STEEM added to their faucet payout, as well as for every bet they've done they receive an additional 0.00000001 STEEM added to their payout. Faucet payouts will be enabled every 5 minutes with a maximum of 1 STEEM being paid out each time, and a minimum of 0.00000001 STEEM paid out to brand new "fresh" accounts. Wager 1000 STEEM (sounds like a lot but isn't) in 1000 bets and your faucet payour every 5 minutes would be something like 0.00002001 STEEM to play around with.
This coupled with the 1% house edge on the site allows you to go for payouts of up to 990000x on your win.. So on the off chance you hit a 1-in-a-Million win with your 0.00002001 STEEM bet you'd win something like 19.8099 STEEM!
The faucet is still very much under development and is not currently implemented on the front end or back end yet for the v0.7.1 site currently up and running on Steem-Roller.com. A whole new GUI will roll out with the faucet update but much development needs to be finished with functions tested before we see the site transition to the new v0.7.3. As it sits the faucet code is about 75% completed but the GUI still needs serious mobile optimization in order to see a release.
A New GUI is Coming
After a bunch of thought and feedback from the SR community it has been decided that the GUI that will continue forward in development is the fabled "index2" version which overall seems like a far less "janky" and more polished GUI. Currently you can experience a version of the "index2" GUI variety by typing https://www.steem-roller.com/index2.html into your web browser.
This version of the client may have bugs and certain features may not be implemented, it is also completely 100% NOT optimized for mobile usage at this point and mobile users can expect the site to be unusable for them if using the "index2" variation of the client. Users of such devices of iPads may be able to access the site somewhat decently although I've not personally got one laying around to test it, so any feedback or bug reporting is welcomed!
Beta Testing & Development Environment Setup
Finally bit the bullet and set myself up a proper development instance for future SR development. Not only will this help with overall development speed it will also mitigate pesky restarts as well as make the SR platform more stable, but also allow for truly experimental ideas (such as faucet development) to be done behind the scenes without fear of opening up the site to bugs and such. This likely should have been done off the get go but I was having issues on figuring out how to do it properly.

Does the old steem faucet still exist?

I've got it backed up somewhere here, it will go online again when I can afford it. They wanted something like $80 USD to renew the domain and the hosting was expensive given the server needed a Steem Node built into it. It's on the lists of things to get going in the new year, money permitting. :)

Maybe I'll drop by and lap up some of that deliciousness coming out of your faucet.

The current version doesn't have a faucet yet. The new v0.7.3 will have a faucet though.
