[Bookmark This] A Grandma Proof Way of Cashing Out Your Hard Earned Steem Dollars In The Bank

in steemdollars •  8 years ago  (edited)

Introduction

My dad @grandpere is a retired 75 years old man who always had a knack for technology. Even though he is well versed in computer, he did have a hard time figuring out how to exchange crypto. Anyone who went through this process the first time know what I mean.

I saw him work for 5 days on this! So we teamed up for this post.
Give him a big cheer and vote if you find this post is valuable!

@grandpere message:

Steemit comes from a cryptocurrency community that knows the workings of trade. @grandpere was not born with the crypto but paper money. I like to think that I know computers well enough, despite my age, but when it comes time to reap the fruits of my hard work, I was little lost.

Fortunately, @cryptoctopus, yep, that's my son, helped me out by saying, "click here, click there, copy here, then paste, etc. and oups! Voila, money is in my bank account! What a joy, what a surprise ... but I did not understand anything!

And I guess Steemit wants to reach an audience beyond the crypto enthusiasts! Anyway, everyone is open to earn money. So I put myself in "learning mode".

Having been a teacher of Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Web producer), who produces learning manuals step by step, so I set out to produce a document for the uninitiated, newbies like me. Opportunity to master the process, not easy for dummies!

Being Canadian, the choice of traders has changed. CoinBase no longer do business with Canadian banks has a sword over it's head. So I chose Kraken after checking other exchanges.

The document explains the different steps it takes to cover deposits in our bank account.

Hey cryptoctopus,

believe me or not. I sent this to my grandpa and he was able to cash out :D he might be old but is interested to technologies. A really simple and great post there.

Bookmarked it. Hope to see more from you my friend

The technology was amazing
I love your post @cryptoctopus

So so cool! Then, I might be able to do it too! ;-)

@cryptoctopus, and @grandpere, thanks for share it, right now everything is more clear!!! I´m downloading the PDF, I will search more and more about this terrific tecnlogy!!! I just called it "the new era", I was working with Bittrex but I lost some money... if you say than this plataform is batter... I will try it... Be sucsess, and thanks again. GBY and remember, the Sky is not the limit, the limit is in our minds.... Thanks from the #steemitcolombia comunity!!!

Yep, I had tried using Bittrex as well and sent some cryptocurrency out into Internet Space. Ugh. (probably my own fault, ...but still...) Thanks @cryptoctopus and @grandpere!

I will made an update for Bittrex

Great stuff! Hopefully in the future this will become even easier because many would get overwhelmed by slide 3. I can hear them now, "Can't I just write a check? I know how to do that."

My hope is we'll eventually have fewer reasons to use a national currencies at all. My wife finally got into crypto currencies because of Steemit after me trying and failing for over three years. She skipped the complicated bank verification step and just went right to Coinbase and then from there to Gyft where she bought an Amazon gift card. Once that was loaded up, the money felt "real" to her. We call that "getting to the magic" and whoever can do that the quickest in the crypto world will bring in the most new people.

I also us bitcoin to Gyft it's super easy.

awesome! Very well layed out for a complete newbie. Thanks! I'll bookmark this.

Like a bause!

Great work :)

And remember, never leave money on the exchanges.

Every other slide should say this.

That's how persistent this message should be.

Replying simply so I remember to come back and look at this when I'm not at work!

Looks pretty good and I will show my results!

Great post... but man the payout is all that is wrong with steem(it)...

I don't understand why are you promoting blocktrades when by using poloniex or bittrex you can get +5% more STEEM with the same bitcoin ...

I agree with you. For a first publication, I wanted to offer the simplest solution. For an upgrade, I want to add options to Bittrex, Poloniex and others. Other updates are coming.

I think for promoting a service we have to promote the best solution. The other option I've spoken are simple as blocktrades.

With Poloniex and Bittrex, we need to create an account, not with BlockTrades, therefore easier for a newbie.

Extremely well done. Congratulations to both of you. You are a great team :)

The other night I did a similar tutorial. Transfering SBD to BTC to Euro via Bittrex and Cashila. Check it out, please.

Interesting. I started with Bittrex but I have not found how to transfer to my bank, particularly a Canadian bank. Could be used instead of Bittrex BlockTrades, but a little more developed for newbies

Hey Cryptoctopus are you a quebecer by any chance? lol I am starting to see more and more of us in here :P

Quadriga CX is a Canadian based company in Vancouver that anyone in Canada can use to do this as well. Basically you transfer the Bitcoin to Quadriga CX then convert it for CDN or US funds, and then do a withdrawl into either a Cdn funds account or a US Funds account, and presto a couple days later the cash is in your account. Enjoy

Thank for the information. I saw that. I think the trading with Quadriga is made with Interac and fees are 2%. Kraken uses Vogogo (LFS) and the fees are 10$. Correct me if I'm wrong.

ya im book marking this , ill definately need this at a later stage

Lol. Maybe not quite grandma proof, but good detailed instructions.

It depends on Grandma! I agreed with you.

I agree. Smart Grandmas. 8)

I've used kraken since 2014 and never had any issues with them, always reliable!

Thank you to inform me of the reliability of the product. I used CoinBase, but it is more accessible for Canadiens.I was looking for a product accessible also to the Europeans even Asians.

Hi @grandpere, great start! I am looking for product accessible to Asian market. I am totally new to crypto world. Got no idea where to buy and where to sell. Looking forward for your tutoriol. Happy Steeming!

Great guide. One question: What's a steemit dollar?

Just kidding!! Bookmarked so I can link this when newbies ask in the future

Thanks for the note. I wil change for Steem dollar.

after everything i have a huge mistrust of exchanges. I use them when i need them or find a local btc dealer, cashing out via an exchange is fine.

"NEVER KEEP YOUR BTC OR ANYTHING ELSE ON AN EXCHANGE"

Sorry for the caps but can not stress this enough! Keep Your coins safe!

Your grandpa can figure out cryptocurrency while I am still trying to get my parents to understand the concept of what an internet browser is... I'm not sure how many more, "No mom, the chrome logo is not the internet, it is the browser that lets you view things on the internet" and "I don't know what you mean when you say the Yahoo isn't working anymore" I have left in me

Feeling old

Great user guide to follow. Its very useful for beginner. Thanks

Thank you and your dad for your very well done tutorial !

I wish you and your dad an excellent day ! - Merci :)

Great post. It definitely is no easy task if you are completely new to cryptocurrency, which many are. I think the more straightforward easy to understand tutorials that are published the better.

Someone he know another application to transfer Bitcoin to a bank with Euro/ USD / CAD currencies?

i can't wait for the day I'm helping out all my friends and family to get paid using steemit.

The effort you guys put into this share is much appreciated, will be sharing this for sure! Thanks @cryptoctopus!

This is an excellent guide. Easy to read and follow. Thanks for your effort. It is appreciated.

Realy useful

As they say in Canada. C A S H ... O O O T

Wow! Finally I know what to do! So great to have you!

Awesome guide! Very easy to follow. Thanks! I'll bookmark this.

Very useful article. Crypto can be like a jigsaw puzzle for a beginner.

This post very useful for me, because i seek something like that - i want to withdraw money to my card.
Thank you.

Well laid out and easy to follow. Great collaberation. Bookmarked for the day its needed

awesome post and very useful for others to understand how to take out moneys :))) thanks for sharing! Check out my latest post, I'm spreading the word about steemit and giving out free cake :)

excellent and admirable. upvoted.

At the time I am writing this, Blocktrades says says that it will give 0.00132527 Bitcoin per Steem Dollar. The current price of Bitcoin as I write this is $575. This means that 0.00132527 BTC is worth about $0.75 (75 pennies). However, you are giving them 1 Steem Dollar, which as I write this is worth $2.11. So if you were to exchange 100 steam dollars you would be giving them $211 dollars and they would only be giving you $75 in return. That sounds like a horrible deal for exchanging Steem Dollars for Bitcoin. No thanks.

The goal of the tutorial is to explain the steps. At the time of screenshots, exchange rate was .73, so no time to exchange with no market as shown in the dia # 17 where I recommend .95 and above. Is it OK?

Oh I see, I made a mistake. A Steem dollar is only worth $1 and not $2.11 like I said in my last comment. Ok so if you give them $100 then they give you $75 back. That is still not a great deal but it is not as bad as I was originally thinking.

Love it

@karenb54 & @merej99 this explains it so much better than I can.

Thanks for you tutorial.. nice job..

ah ha, KRAKEN...

I checked out Bittrex earlier when you recommended it as a Canadian exchange, though contacted them and told they don't currently do withdrawals to Canadian bank accounts. so Kraken may be the way to go. 1% withdrawal free not that bad.

though, would also like to stay away from the fiat system (for various reasons) as much as possible, working with Bitcoin visa cards - though still need to find one in CAD dollars, as the USD exchange would typically be 3%...

they aren't doing any withdrawals atm? they were hacked for 65,000,000 usd...... never keep your coins in an exchange!

Thanks for the info. I always bookmark your posts, they are instructive and exceptional.

nice post and thanks for information, very helpful

Why didn't your grandpa, @grandpere share this?

This is a great article thanks. As a side note the usd withdraw in United States requires verification level 3.

Any withdrawal to a bank requires the Tier 3 level or Level 3.

woah that is great that he is contributing!

Hi, great post. I will see (after translation into Italian) how my father reacts to it (83 years old) :-)

Great post. Its very helpful to n00bz like me. Sidenote: Where is the gif from?

Yussss

I'm Following @grandpere; but not @cryptoctopus he is clearly an inexperienced noob.

Have you read any of his paper and his background ?
You might learn something...
