First Power Down
................................................................................................................................................................

Stressful?
Nawwwwwwww. It wasn't any worse than attending a birthing. Less blood maybe but about the same amount of anxiety.

but it's DONE.
It's available on my ShiftCard now.
or in my Credit Union in a day..

Any reason why? Or, just decided this is the right time? Does it have anything to do with the fork in a couple of days?

I think it's a great idea to keep powering down regularly, you can always cancel and reset before 6 days and 23 hours. This way you're more likely going to have liquid steem to trade just in case steem spikes for a day or two.

On the other hand, if you store your earnings in steem, it gets debased by a fraction of 0.19% everyday, I'm sure you already know this.

I dunno
I'm wondering about how much SteemPower is enough and how much is just waisted.

It is not wasted if you keep it at about 65-70% upvote as much everyday to get you there and the next day you will have another 20% to upvote. As I sit here at the 99% mark, lol!

I'm at the 28% mark and I haven't voted at all today.

Did you go crazy yesterday? LOL

yes..

I mean, what is "enough" is completely your choice. It can be a hard one to make, but no one else can make that decision for you

the upcoming hardfork adds a new factor to that decision too.
the way I understand it...it will amplify my vote power by 400%...
I just removed 1/13 of my steem power...
something to think about.

Thanks for sharing.. i'm following you..please follow me and give me upvoted

Is that a self portrait? :)

yup

thank for sharing

Nice :-)

That's what this is all about for me. Work on Steemit and use what you earn to go and do stuff you enjoy.

Looking forward to seeing pics of your dream on the water :-)

I'll post updates...
it won't likely be on the water for months or maybe years.
I expect to pick it up at the end of the month and take it to a place that I can work on it. The hull is sound (1970's hand layed fiberglass is ETERNAL)..but the interior is a wreck. I expect that I'll completely gut it and rebuild from the keel up, inside.

Oh, year 1970's fibreglass is pretty indestructible ;-) and heavy!

So I guess there is a series on 'how to build a STEEM boat' coming up huh?

you missed it?
I've already written a few posts..

The S.S. Steem Dream Machine

Grats!

I was as nervous as a hen with kittens for a minute.

Wouldn't a steamboat be more appropriate?

that's exactly what it's going to look like only much smaller.
24 ft long (not counting the paddle wheel in the back and the extended deck and the gangplank up front....just like that one)
8 ft wide and 12 foot tall (including the flying bridge- pilot house- on top)
this is a similar boat

(except that the one I'm getting had twin inboard injuns)

which are already gone

...I'm going solar electric,

batteries in the engine well..they can't be any heavier than TWO inboard motors?

..and two small electric motors powering two paddle wheels (differential steering?)

I don't intend to go fast...just cruising.

Just make sure you don't go too small on the electric motors

not that kind.

and this

his is gas and chaindrive
mine will be electric and rope drive.

cheaper that way
like this...kinda sorta

rope is cheap, so are pulleys..and I can splice them to be any length.
did I mention that they were cheap?
break one..fix it..

I'm sure you can afford a higher quality rope.

only the best hemp will do.
or maybe kevlar

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Don't waste kevlar on a steamboat. It has many other useful applications. I say go with hemp.

or just plain old poly ski rope.
it's not like were talking major power here.
and that's the point.
as long as it will go UP river, agains the current...about 3mph...I'm good.

actually it's going to be in a lake anyway..not much current in damned up lakes.

Congratulations amigo...they are just numbers on a screen till they are not, meaning until they are something tangible.
A form of alchemy...turning frequency bits into a boat, amazing

actually no. I have the purchase price of the boat and half again in a bitcoin account on an undisclosed exchange.
the owner of the boat in question is currently on a business trip for ten days.
when he returns I'll go get the boat (it comes complete with a trailer)
take it to a RV Storage space that I will have rented (already checked it out..it'll be ok)
then work on it there until complete.
to celebrate I bought a bottle of Devils River whisky.(with monies I made from steem) then I took the wife out to eat (paid for the same way)
when the boat is launched I'll use it to christen the boat rather than wine.

Thats awesome....hope it all goes to plan

no plan survives contact with reality.
but I have alternates.
and.
adapt, improvise, and overcome.
the most goodest part?
all I have, or will have, invested is my time.
and I'm retired...I have a LOT of that.

Good luck either or ither way
