Hello everyone. Today we came with another interesting topic. What is an asteroid !?

So, we generally know that asteroids are rocky ,airless rubble orbiting our Sun between Mars and Jupiter between the main asteroid belt. The size of an asteroids are not specified properly but the largest is about 329 miles around 530 kilometres in diameter to the smallest which is around less than 33 feet nearly 10 metres is size. If we compare the mass of the asteroids than the total mass of all the asteroids combined will be less than as compared to the earth's moon.

That's how an asteroids looks like!!

According to NASA the current asteroids count is :-1,281,185

Most of the asteroids are irregularly in shaped and some of them are nearly spherical also , we know that asteroids revolves around the sun in an elliptical orbit and they sometime rotate erratically , more than 150 asteroids have a companion moon some of the asteroids even have 2 moon . There are binary asteroids also where two rocky roughly same size bodies revolve around each other.
This is an example of binary asteroids:-

There are 3 types of asteroids :-

  1. C-types :- The C-types are most common asteroids . As they are made up of clay and silicate rocks, and appear dark, They are known to be the most ancient object in the solar system
2)S-types:- The S-types are made up of silicate materials and nickel-iron.
3)M-types:- The M-types metallic . The asteroids' compositional differences are related to how far from the Sun they formed.

The orbit of the asteroids can be changed by jupiter massive gravity and by the close encounter with the mars or with other objects,Due to these encounters asteroid knocked out from the asteroid belt present between these two planet.

That's all for today I hope you will like this ,next post will be on asteroids belt:
