The right advertising strategy

For some time now I have come across the fabricated advertising campaign of the books of a person I know and I wonder if it could not be any other way. Well, given recent events in my life, it seems like it can't be any other way, but I still wonder.

In order for a product to sell, its creator must be some fictional character, unreal, his character traits must be unreal, his lifestyle and all.
Along those lines, would Bitcoin have been successful if everyone knew its creator? If they knew he was just a regular guy going to work from 9 to 5, some developer or some other enthusiast. I don't believe it.

So this guy I know, promoting his books, has told a bunch of lies about himself and his lifestyle. "Description of life on the road." he defined his first book. While the boy lives in a certain neighborhood of the capital, with a rather negative reputation, and works in a company from 9 to 5. He dreams, perhaps, of a life on the road, but if he says that, who will buy his books? All of us, well, not all of us, but many of us also dream of such a thing.
And the fact that there is another such person cannot make his books marketable.

He went on excursions on his own, organized everything himself, he also says. But I met him precisely on an excursion organized by an agency, where no one had ever organized anything. Of course, that was a long time ago and things may have changed, but even this year he again claimed to be on his own and exploring a country in Asia, until he was mistakenly tagged in a group photo of a whole group of tourists organized by a travel agency. 🤣

These things, perhaps small details, are very contrary to the motto of his entire campaign, so I just stand there and wonder - could it not have been any other way? Well, not all people are like me, to notice small details that spoil the whole picture, but still.

In Bulgaria, there is one main most famous author, famous to the extent that when a competition or some prize is mentioned, he is the one who always wins. He even won the Booker Prize and is the country's most successful and most translated author of all time. But...
Years ago, I ordered his first book to familiarize myself with the work of this overpraised author. Overall, I was underwhelmed by the book, even disgusted, and have expressed no desire to buy any of his books ever again.
It was sort of a toilet bowl history, that's what I remember, dull and nasty, hard to read, with one or two interesting sentences as ideas, not really clear from where borrowed by this otherwise untalented writer.

But advertising and marketing strategy, this is what has taken him to the top, what has made everyone talking about him, queues at book bazaars to buy his books and translated into so many foreign languages ​​abroad. He was accused of taking advantage of the positions he held in governmental and non-governmental organizations, translating and self-distributing his works, taking advantage of his political connections, etc. Plus something extra.

In 2022, a man made a splash with an ostentatious charity campaign - he collected funds from other people and companies to buy generators for Ukraine. You will say that it was a very noble thing to do at the time, but if you had seen the show and the publicity with which it was done, and how this man then got into politics and ran for mayor of the second largest city in the country, you will know that this was something different.

Then it was mentioned that this person was a publisher, but only now, after all these years, I actually understand that this person is the very publisher of "the greatest Bulgarian writer of all time", the one who, after a successful advertising and marketing campaign, positioned himself as such, it becomes such, although there are certainly many other good, much better, interesting and pleasant to read Bulgarian authors.

And what better self-promotional strategy than seeming aid to the wronged in a war? I don't know who is learning from whom in this case and who is the teacher and who is the student, but they both definitely became successful and famous with proper advertising strategies. And no, helping people in distress turns out not to be noble, contrary to popular opinion, when you actually take advantage of their plight for selfish purposes. More recently, there was another similar case from an organization that I respected until this action of theirs - they in turn collected funds to buy water for the victims after the floods in Valencia, a showy operation, again with self-interest. But that's another topic to discuss and I hope you understand what I mean.

So, the right advertising strategy that guarantees success - it doesn't matter if you are a good author, if there is someone who knows how to advertise and promote your stuff. The man I know also fell into a similar publicity campaign, probably sponsored by his publisher - invitations to radio and television shows, paid articles, a photography session abroad, for the launch of the book, etc. The one who pretended to be a great traveler and explorer while living at home and traveling from time to time to organized and very famous tourist destinations. Everyone needs people to promote them. Even Angela Merkel seems to need it? 🤔 In this world where it's not quality that matters, not truth, not morality for sure, but how you're going to make a lot of money no matter how you do it.
