Steemfest ticket contest

in steemfest •  6 years ago  (edited)

Hi @smooth, first I'd like to say thanks for the opportunity this contest presents.

My name is Rowan, @raj808 on steemit. I have been writing nearly every day on steemit for over a year. My blog is made up of a wide range of content including, short stories, poetry, travel articles, scuba diving articles, articles relating art and comedy posts.

I have just passed my 1 year steemit anniversary (2 weeks ago) and in that time I have been involved helping to improve many steemit communities, as well as the platform on the whole.

Everything I've done.... Hmnnn, get ready for a list 😉

  • Curie curator - I have been working as a curator for @curie for 10 months now (since late October 2017), helping to reward undervalued content on steemit by hunting down exceptional content. Curie is an essential mechanism for user retention on steemit and, I feel, it's us curators who keep those cogs oiled. All of my earnings from curie have been powered up and I have never taken anything out of steemit apart from 40 or 50 steem 7 months ago when the market was at its peak.

  • I am involved with @isleofwrite behind the scenes as a resident curator, keeping track of the excellent creative work that the members of that community produce and recommending for curie curation when possible.

  • I worked as a fiction/poetry mentor in @promo-mentors for 4 months. During this time I helped many steemians with full proofreads of their work. I studied creative writing in university and prided myself on giving comprehensive editing advice to the same level that we were taught in university writing workshops.

  • I ran a segment on the Monday night show @whaleshares called Literary Corner. In this segment I invited some of the most talented creative writers (in the fields of poetry and fiction) on to the show to discuss and, in some cases, perform their work. This show also rewarded these steemians with large whaleshares upvotes helping encourage and reward quality on the steemit platform.

  • I have been involved with the @comedyopenmic community a little with helping promote their Spanish section and with an upcoming judging role.

  • I have recently become involved with @sndbox as a cohort member and am actively contributing to their community with content and hopefully soon by writing a few articles for the @creativecrypto magazine.

  • I also have become involved with an amazing writing contest, and community, called Finish the Story Competition. This is one of the most fun creative writing catalysts I've found on steemit, if you are stuck for creative inspiration, this contest will sort you out every time. Also, there is a dedicated, friendly and tight-nit community of writers around the comp which really makes it something special. Check out the link to learn more about the competition. I have contributed by writing one of the beginnings for week 22, have helped out with judging and delegated some steem to the home of the competition, @bananafish.

  • Finally, I have helped set up a charity (as part of the sndbox summer camp) on the steem blockchain called @projectgiving which I hope to promote at steemfest 3. This charity is a fully accountable blockchain charity with far-reaching ambitions of engaging mainstream press with our future achievements. This will, hopefully, help to drive the push toward mass adoption. I you'd like to read more about what I have done in helping build the charity, check out the Accountability Model and our first competition/Community Challenge.

I am now working pretty much full time on steemit and have put my heart and soul into the platform over the last year, and a huge amount of my creative work which has been published here exclusively. I'm sure that we are just in a holding pattern in regards to the market, but the downturn has left me struggling to be able to pay my bills and rent, let alone a ticket to steemfest. All of this work I've put in has been at a time in my life when I have been suffering with a chronic GI (gastrointestinal) condition which limits my capabilities severely. I have not really talked about that side of my life much on steemit until recently and if you'd like to hear more about these issues and what I'm doing to try and solve them, here is a recent dtube video I produced called Juice Fast for Healing Challenge.

In conclusion, I'm trying for a free ticket as there is no chance I will make it to steemfest otherwise. I would very much like to attend to promote @projectgiving, myself as a blogger, network with tech people around a creative idea I have toward bringing traditional publishing entities to steemit, learn more about all sides of the technical aspects of this blockchain and network in general while promoting both curie and sndbox.

Soon It will be my 1st birthday on this platform too.. I did a couple of things and met a lot of interesting steemians.. In my experience @raj808 has been a true selfless friend and he supported our community of fiction writers - the Finish the Fiction contest, held by @bananafish - helping us grow, writing with us, leaving his meaningful comments (those that truly make a difference) and sustaining us through the Curie project. Yes, the point thinking about it is that Rowan is one of those rare people that care and that can make a difference and leave you always richer than before. I donnow someone that deserves the ticket more than him!

Wow... great to hear that your having your 1st steemit birthday soon. Thanks for these kind words my friend and your support for this contest, it is much appreciated. It was the 'Finish the fiction contest' which got me writing more fiction again. I'm not sure I would have been putting a short story out weekly if it wasn't for the awesome prompts that the competition provides.

Thanks again @f3nix

you got my vote my poor weak vote.

Thanks for your support @stever82 your vote means a lot, however small :-) It has been a pleasure to write along side you in the 'Finish the Story Contest'. I shall be back from my brief break next week and look forward to reading a new amazing beginning, it is really one of the most fun writing contest/challenges on steemit :-)

Not only do you give back so much in terms of projects, you offer continuous encouragement and support to so many creative people, the time and effort you put into steemit, you're a pillar of the writing community. Of course you would be a representative for the @bananafish tribe, another project you have given so much to! I sincerely hope the love you have put in comes back ten-fold and you get a ticket <3

Thank you for this recommendation @calluna

You are one of my favorite creative writers on steemit and I thank you mainly for the many excellent poems and stories that you have gifted us all with, but also for bigging me up 😉

I will indeed be talking to people about @bananafish tribe if I make it to steemfest 3 and I've just updated this comment to include what I have done with the 'finish the story' competion.

Thanks again for your support :-)

UwU Cześć @raj808 UwU ~ @raj808 be a good friend to @bananafish and the lovely family surrounding them, a hard-working Steemit user, a neat story writer that deserves due gravitas right there alone, a great representative of the Steemit site and a hearty kindred lad.
Now: Marsz! Marsz! Marsz! Wygraj ten bilet! (I only know so lil' Polish D^: - poor me.)

You're pretty good!
Pretty good.gif

Thanks for your support @theironfelix :-) It has been a pleasure to write along side you in the 'Finish the Story Contest'. I shall be back from my brief break next week and look forward to reading a new amazing beginning, it is really one of the most fun writing contest/challenges on steemit :-)

As they say it in the farmlands (the non-highlander informal version of you're welcome) in Poland: proshaw.

You definitely deserve this! You got my vote <3

Thanks @rubencress your support means a lot coming from a fellow curie curator. I appreciate it mate :-)

Hey man good luck! You definitely deserve this!

Thanks anomadsoul, it would make my year to make it to steemfest and put faces to all the names/handles. Cheers for the support :-)

You should get this one, @raj808. I appreciate all of your contributions to this platform. You deserve this one :)

Thanks @misterakpan the dude who trained and recommended me to curie! I probably wouldn't be on steemit if it weren't for you brother, as I was struggeling with the realities of minnow (minuscule) payouts when I first discovered the curie chatroom. When I was recommended it gave me a new outlet, other than writing on steemit. A new way to contribute and grow.

Your support on this comp means a lot, thanks :-)

Raj featured on my show when we curated one of his posts. He was so impressive I asked him back with his own segment which I left entirely up to him. He hit the ground running and did a fantastic job of bringing in literary talent to the Whaleshares Curation Show each week.

I was then happily shocked to learn that he was involved with many other projects, and that so many other people had great things to say about him.

I feel I knew Raj reasonably well now but every week I'd find out something new about him. He's multi talented and one of the best human assets Steemit has.

Thanks for your support @nikflossus, the whaleshares Monday night show was so much fun and I was sad when it ended but happy to have contributed with Literature Corner. Best of luck with all your endeavors and your plans for the new platform. I shall be checking it out soon :-)

You are a busy Steemian, good luck buddy!

Thanks dude. Fingers will stay crossed... not sure how long I'll be able to keep them that way ;-)

Raj808 was my first real connection on steemit. i credit him with my sticking around. i was not finding engagement and enter Raj with his heartfelt real comments. Kept me going... he even had me over to his place in Liverpool for New years this year.... fun raging in person. I know no more deserving person here on steemit....i hope you win this ticket Raj!!!

Thanks @buttcoins I appreciate your support. I'm always real happy when I think that I was part of you not giving up in those early days, mainly because your a diamond geezer and steemit wouldn't be the same without you, but also because your content has just blown up to the next level! You are literally my favorite vlogger to watch on steemit, that is nothing to do with our friendship, simply how good the vlogs are!

Ha ha, yeah Liverpool new years was indeed a rager.

You are one of the best creative writers I know in Steemit. I keep learning a lot from every fiction post you write.

You also are a very active and unselfish Steemian! Your curation and support activity is very precious, and your charity project makes you honor.

For these reasons, I think you would totally deserve the free ticket!

Good Luck, my friend! ;)

Thanks for your support @marcoriccardi it has been a pleasure to write along side you in the 'Finish the Story Contest'. I shall be back from my brief break next week and look forward to reading a new amazing beginning that I can craft my own ending for, it is really one of the most fun writing contest/challenges on steemit :-)

Congratulations buddy on your one year anniversary on steemit.
You deserve to get the ticket for steemfest. You've been a wonderful Steemian and I am proud to be associated with you.

Dante is here no fear

Cheers

Thanks @dante31... the first person to welcome me into the curie community in the discord room after I had been accepted as a curator, with the immortal words... 'welcome to the a-team'.

Your support on this comp means a lot, thanks :-)

yes! Raj is one of the most dedicated steemians that i know. i met him through @projectgiving and then found that we were in the sndbox incubator together. we also connect through @naturalmedicine and it's been fantastic getting to know him more and having some of his hard work rub off on and encourage us ;)!! he'd be a stellar selection to win the ticket/trip! a true dedicated and connected steemian.

best luck!

Thanks for your support @mountainjewel it has been a pleasure to work along side you @projectgiving and now in sndbox cohort 2. Thanks again for the introduction to @naturalmedicine, the juice fast is not going amazing, but I'm only on day 5 and still in detox mode I think. Feeling very squiffy at the moment lol :-)

Apart from consistently giving steemit quality content yourself, you have done a lot in promoting and discovering that quality from others. You deserve this and good luck!

Thanks @thatdamiguy these words mean a lot coming from a fellow curie curator. I appreciate your support :-)

I am the founder of @promo-mentors, and @raj808 has helped us enormously! Each week we had dozens of people coming for fiction workshops and @raj808 helped us a lot by attending them.

Raj's heart is in Steemit and he deserves to be in Steem Fest!

Thanks for your support @futurethinker, it means a lot. Also, thanks for teaching me a lot about steemit and discord communities in general. I consider you to be one of my mentors here on steemit.

It was mental last autumn @promo-mentors, at the market peak. I remember the poetry/fiction channel being so busy that between 10-20 people would turn up for feedback and I'd be plowing through as many poems and short stories as I could in the 2 hour workshop session, trying to do full proofreads when I should have just been giving more general advice. Lol, it was worth it seeing some writers really improve and grow their talent.

Thanks again for your comment :-)

Couldn't think of anyone more deserving of this opportunity than @raj808. His work on Steemit is out of this world. Hope to hear about his fantastic Steemfest adventure!!!

Thanks @cyemela I appreciate your support and kind words. For sure if I make it to steemfest I will be putting out some unique content, reporting on the conference through the creative writers looking glass. There would be some stories and poems as well as more traditional articles to document it all, maybe even a vlog or two ;-)

@raj808 is an important member of the community. As a founder of @isleofwrite, I saw him add value and keep people on the platform by helping excellent writers earn a curie, as well as helping edit and support poetry on the block. His comment history speaks for itself- he writes thoughtful, analytical comments on the creative work of others, really seeing the person behind the work.

I have also had the honor of watching his work with projectgiving. Raj has reached out to me and djs on the minnow support project to drum up support for projectgiving, creating an important support network on various discord servers.

Raj would be an excellent representative for the blockchain at steemfest, as he is creative and community minded.

Thanks @sunravelme. Your support is massively appreciated and also your help over the last few months in connecting me with people over at MSP to promote @projectgiving. You have always been an awesome friend to me on steemit and the best mentor/proofreader for my poetry.

What you do for the poetry community on steemit is nothing short of inspirational :-)

Everyone's comments (not only here but in every single interaction I have read) tell how much you have supported and encouraged this platform with your genuine efforts Raj808! Your personality, your striving on through fatigue and hardships, your creativity, your generosity and your humor that has reached so many here on Steemit. You have an open mindedness about you that listens to others and takes in each experience as a chance for growth. I hope that you win this ticket to Steemfest so that you can meet new people who can take inspiration from you and your outlook while you learn from them. (Oh, and hopefully while having a wicked good time!) Good luck to you!

Thanks @brisby I appreciate your support and kind words. If I make it to steemfest I will be trying to bring that raj808 humor and forward looking attitude ;-) Also, I will be putting out some unique content, reporting on the conference through the creative writers looking glass. There would be some stories and poems as well as more traditional articles to document it all, maybe even a vlog or two ;-)

Thanks again for the luck and well wishes

This guy is one of the most hardworking and selfless person ive known in the steemit community. Aside from mentoring people in the promo-mentors channel, he is also a Curie curator. He spends a lot of time in this platform, helping it to grow in popularity and at the same time encouraging authors to take their writing skills to the next level. This platform needs a lot of people like @raj808 in my opinion.

Thanks Andy. Your support is much appreciated. I remember when we were both working in promo-mentors in the early days, it was a blast helping with that first development stage of the community. Then you joined me in curie, glad to have got to know you mate :-)

Thanks again

I've read through the comments that have been posted so far, and see reflected in them the person I've come to know as @raj808.

Steemit is a vast community. It's easy to get lost, to feel anonymous. Early in my experience here @raj808 put an end to that impression at a critical juncture. He took note of my work when I was a fledgling blogger. He responded to comments when I was just finding my way around the platform. It never seemed to matter to him that I had little reputation or voting power.

Then, of course, I started reading his work. He is spectacularly talented, gifted with the kind of intrinsic creativity that enhances the quality of this platform. He really is the best that steemit has to offer: hard working, generous, talented. A ticket to steemfest will be good for steemit, good for him. I hope it happens.

Thank you so much for your kind words and support @agmoore. I really rate your content also and am glad I discovered your blog :-)
