Home from Steemfest and suffering a bit

in steemfest •  6 years ago

It's not what you might think. I was really tired, but I didn't drink to excess. My throat was sore from several days of almost non-stop talking, but then it turned into something else. I now have a streaming nose and a thick head, so I must have picked up some bug. I'm just happy that it didn't affect my Steemfest experience.

I've seen some reports of the final day, such as this by @camuel. The salt mine looks awesome and I'm sorry I missed it. Next time I need to stay until the end.

I did at least get to see some of the city. The Saturday boat ride was relaxing. It was cold to start with, but warmed up nicely. I've heard that they suffer pollution from burning coal, but the skies were clear. I saw a lot of cyclists wearing smog masks. It might be an issue if you were running there all the time.

After the boat a crowd of us went looking for a late lunch, but we were too many to fit in anywhere. In the end I went with @shanibeer and @gillianpierce to a little place that did nice dumplings. I tried to post a Let's Eat review, but the app was playing up for me.

After that I wandered off. The Steemfest app had a cool audio tour and I was able to do part of that whilst weaving through the big crowds who were there for the national day centenial celebrations. I need to go back to Krakow to explore it properly. The castle looked impressive from the outside.

I took in the eSteem party and Beer Saturday meetup before a fairly early night.

I had to be up fairly early to get my flight. I walked to the station to get a train to the airport where I met up with @slayerkm and his brother. Their flight was running pretty late.

My flight was fine. I even got a set of seats to myself and then we had the two minute silence at altitude. I was home not long after lunch, but by then I was feeling rough.

If you can get to any sort of Steem meetup then I recommend it. There's no substitute for face to face chats. It brings people closer together and the friendships will help you in your journey here. This diverse bunch of people is so welcoming and I'm proud to be a part of the community.

Steem on!

AH! My suspicious are correct I to am suffering from the same fate @steevc particularly my throat is sore. I might lose my voice soon argh, I hope not! I also had delays with my plane this was because of the fog, was about one hour and half late, but no biggie.

Hope you get over it soon

I do hope I can enjoy a steemfest some day. Glad your back and home safely hope you get better. My recommendation UMCKA and chicken soup.

That is a bummer, I know that feeling well. I just went through a week of it myself. My nose is still running like a faucet. What is this two minute silence thing? I was going to Google it, but then I just figured I would ask.

It's on the anniversary of the first world war armistice and this was the centenary. It's 11am on 11/11 each year.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the info!

I know what you mean about the Let's Eat app. I had problem to locate the place in the map and I just can't get the correct location. I gave up in the end.
It's been awesome to meet up with you. Hope to see you sometime soon! Till then take care and keep in touch.

I got the same bug :( both of us, @hedac and eye... it was on the trip back, unleashed during Monday and we are both bound to bed for the day... Healing wishes!, It was such a pleasure to get to know you better.

Sorry to hear you got it too :( At least we got to enjoy Steemfest. See you next time!

No polish viruses here so far (touch wood). I have acquired some other issues though which I will mention in my upcoming post.

We got it too..., trying to track the source... hahaha :) really same symptoms, headache, runny nose and a sore throat on fire, pretty much voiceless, I'm so happy and grateful it happened on our trip back and not during the performance.

What actually is steemfest. Been hearing a lot about it

It's a conference about Steem and Steemit with a big social element. There are lots of talks and some other events. It's a lot of fun

I didn't think steemit was big enough yet to have Steemit celebs for conferences etc. Something to aim for though, sounds good.

There are plenty of interesting people with big ideas, even if we don't have many mainstream celebrities. When they get together then great things happen. You should get to a meetup if you can.

BTW Where are you in Scotland?

Sounds good man. I'm in a town called Kilmarnock, doubt there is much a steemit community though the place is a bit of a social bubble. Small town syndrome.

I'm in a small town too. Actually there's another Steemian not too far from you. @camuel lives in Arran.

@pennsif is in Wales and he's been trying to compile a list of active Steemians in the UK. It looks like you were not on it, but you are now.

My brother lives in Hurlford but he’s not on Steemit. I’m on Arran as Steve said. I believe I was repping the whole of Scotland at SteemFest lol. I’m not back till tomorrow. I had a very relaxing day in Kraków today.

Superb, representing Ayrshire

Hi @screwballpsyche - I have now added you to the latest list that @steevc mentioned of all active steemians in the UK.

Now 9 in Scotland.

Thanks very much for that

Some more great photos. I never knew such things existed in Poland.
I don't think I have ever really viewed any photos of Poland.
Hope you start feeling better soon. Yes, you most likely picked up something in your travels.
This is the alt acct for @rebeccabe trying to be a bit more active.

What things? It's a historic city. I'd go back there to explore some more.

Cheers. It was good to meet you. That was my second Steemfest, so I knew what to expect, but it was still great. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Nice pics 👌💯. Take care and quick recovery!
