YO I am a filmmaker and director. I think steemit.com could have been the next netflix (could be ???) and rack some of a billion dollars industry but the top dogs of the company lack leadership or vision. As a result instead we have the garbage that we have now in trending. I am a firm believer in decentralize distribution / peer to peer content sharing based on gift economy and still firmly believe that it is the future for independent content distribution. Unfortunately I don't think steemit will be a leader in this field.

I think it relates to the amount of effort that high quality contents would require for the reward, given that audiovisual content requires multiple people. For the same reason you rarely see high quality series made for youtube. Still I think it will be good place to find knowledge from industry people if it becomes more popular.
