Steemgar, created by @igster, is a STEEM implementation of the famous game but now you can earn STEEM by winning the game or through other players upvotes.

Latest Development
People have been earning steem for playing a GAME for about 2 weeks now! I don't know if you get it but it's a pretty big deal. Maybe Steem wasn't designed to do "gaming" but I can't think of another blockchain that can do that right now!
Stats & Leaderboard
@crispycoinboys has been compiling stats and leaderboards. He published them under every game (I think) and also publish the "Steemgar Stats for All Time" and the "Steemgar Stats for the Past 7 Days".
Squashing Bugs, More Games and...Open Source?
There is still some bugs that need to be dealt with right now. Once the big one have been squashed, @igster told me that we would start to increase the number of games (every 30 minutes) and potentially bring this open source.
The number of players increases from week to week. It seems to hover around the 20 to 30 players per game. More games mean more rewards and more rewards brings in more players!
He might have to run multiple servers if this game because anymore popular.
ABOUT OPEN SOURCING STEEMGAR...
If @igster ever get this game open source, I will give be backing this open source GitHub through utopian.io with a massive upvote. Ideally, I would like to be him that moderates what is a good entry and what isn't...but for that I would have to talk with him and @utopian-io.

I have played there several times but still no first place lol

I just need to learn how to control the game better since all I do is move my mouse around.

That's a virus. :) If you are bigger than that, it divides you, if you are smaller, you can go through it safely.

Actually, you can half yourself with the space button. That's how you can jump on and eat smaller players, or run from bigger players (because the smaller blobs are faster). But you have to be careful with it because for a few seconds you can't unite the smaller pieces, so even a smaller cell can eat you if he is bigger than those small pieces of yours.
You can experiment with the W button too, it can be helpful in some situations (I don't use it too many times), you divide yourself with that to smaller pieces too, but without the jump.
Another advice is to use F11 at the beginning to play Full Screen. Good luck! :)

I've checked out agar.io and i think it's really a cool game and a nice initiative. BUT i don't support the idea of this game being created on the steem blockchain. Steem on the Steem blockchain was created to be mined by the "proof of brain" system through blogging and writing. I think creating a game on the steem blockchain is really not working along with this plan @crypyoctopus. If more platforms like this are created on the steem blockchain, i believe that the system will change from what it was originally created for. I believe you see a little light in what i am trying yo say @cryptoctopus. Making me understand better and clearing the ideas (which may be wrong) i have in my head will be greatly appreciated.

What do you think about DLive, DTube, Dmania, Utopian.io etc? They are really far from writing and blogging too and they are created on the Steem Blockchain.

I think that most people genuinely enjoy gaming more than they do reading about the latest shitcoin someone is trying to shill. To each their own I guess.
Blockchains just offer forms of accounting for now, advanced blockchains with even lower than 3 sec block time would be ideal to host game data on for game stats, right now steemgar just seems to connect to the blockchain in the capacity of announcing the winners, and that's fine. Speaking of, it seems to have not posted the winning message a few times... but I guess that's an issue they're trying to fix.

I totally support crypto gaming and blockchain based games that are on other platforms and are backed by other cryptocurrencies.

I've never played agar.io before but playing steemgar for like 10 days, 5-6 times daily and I have to say, it's really fun! The game mechanics are really simple, I could say it's an "Easy to learn, hard to master" game, so everybody should give it a try! (you might even earn some Steem for it!) It would be cool as well, if there would be a steemgar game every 30 minutes! Thank you igster for making it and thank you cryptoctopus for supporting it!

For the past 2 weeks, I have heard my male colleagues in school talk about SteemAgar in the cafeteria. I kept wondering what it was about as they kept talking about it with so much passion. This is a positive effect of the law of unintended consequences.
It is one of the great things about technology. The developers/inventors have one idea and, yet, the technology ends up going in a different direction.
I think this blockchain is ideal for gaming. We have the speed to do a ton of transactions so if something because popular, we could see it handle the traffic. Plus, there are no transaction fees on payouts. That is huge. Who wants to win $10 only to lose 5% to a transaction fee? It might not be much but it all does add up. This also allows for a participation fee to be given, lets say .005 SP or whatever.

Everyday, I keep tab of my timeline looking out for these updates. SteemAgar has been on for two weeks yet it has been changing lives of young people already. More projects like this should be created which directly impacts on the lives of young people. Not everyone was born to write. Excellent post and you know what i am big fan to steemgar and it's real fun playing that game but i see when no. of player increasing then we see game lagging and this issue need to be addressed soon, other than that we won't have zooming option and once the ballon get bigger then it cover's the whole screen and we barely see what's going on around us and it's fair chance that we might hit virus unintentionally, so i suggest to add zoom in and out option like original agar.io has, i hope that game will gain more popularity soon because it make player mind more creative, thanks for supporting such projects friend, Stay blessed

I think I'm in the leaderboards of the most number of games played for the week. And maybe the worst winning rate in that list. Recently there was a post from other source where #XP Coin club was mentioned. As far as I know, this is the first digital currency enabling one to earn through playing video games and participating in related activities. XP Coin is cryptocurrency based on Proof Of Stake rather than on the Proof of Work. Im certain you already know that.

I actually know nothing about the online game called Agar but if I understand clearly, steemgar was designed to be like Agar and I must say bringing this to steem blockchain is a stunner. Like he said, instead of gaining glory you can't eat, you can now get rewarded in steem for winning and to make it even better, you oppoents can still reward you for a worthy win. I look forward to games every thirty minutes. Sometimes, when you get eaten within the first ten minutes, it can be quite discouraging. In those cases I wish it was possible to restart and jump back into the game. I think this would be fun for the larger players as well, as they get more new and small players to eat.
