Holmes explained that because a large-scale mining operation is risky when it comes to delivering on time, Hive is being cautious about setting up in Texas too quickly. He made a remark, "We don't want to scare communities or disappoint our shareholders." Cointelegraph was also informed by Issac Holyoak, chief communications officer of CleanSpark, a sustainable Bitcoin mining and technology company, that the company intends to establish a mining facility in West Texas. Holyoak explained that CleanSpark has a co-location agreement with the energy company Lancium in West Texas, despite the fact that the majority of the company's miners are located in Georgia. He stated, "Lancium builds large data centers that can power up or down based on the power supply curve because they perform controlled load response." They can power down to make up for the energy loss caused by the heat of the afternoon. Alternately, they can power up and mine Bitcoin if there is a low demand for energy. Holyoak claims that the Texas-based mining facility operated by CleanSpark and Lancium will open in December of this year. Holyoak noted that, like Hive, CleanSpark has benefited from the elimination of Texas miners due to reduced network competition. However, he believes that the company would benefit from operating in Texas due to the abundance of renewable energy in the area and the welcoming nature of counties seeking mining-related commerce. He stated, "It's a very one-of-a-kind market with renewable resources that are extremely important to sustainable miners." Holyoak added that CleanSpark and other miners should diversify their locations, noting that climate change and other extreme weather events can occur anywhere. CleanSpark has locations in Georgia and a few in upstate New York.
