Qualcomm the leading mobile technology giant that introduced 3G and 4G has started rolling out 5G services in limited trials in 2018. Some of these trials include the following examples:

  • Korea Telecom for the 2018 Winter Olympics (Source: Wikipedia)
  • Telstra at the 2018 Commonwealth Games[ (Source: Wikipedia)

Widespread global 5G mobile tech network deployments are expected by at least 2020. Here are some of the cool things that 5G mobile technology will deliver:

  • 5G will be 100X faster than 4G and 10X faster than average broadband connections (depending on where you live)
  • Full-length movies downloaded onto your mobile device in seconds instead of minutes or streamed in real-time without any delays
  • Autonomous vehicles navigating urban centers safely in real-time
  • It will power the trillion-sensor connected economy

This is a video of the launch of Europe's first 5G network based on Qualcomm's 5G technology in collaboration with its partners Nokia and TIM:

The leap from 3G to 4G led to the era of smartphones, mobile banking and e-commerce. What innovations and disruptions will 5G spearhead?
