Yes, this is not a huge amount of solar panels. These are mirrors.
This system uses thousands of mirrors (with more than 1 million square metres of glass) which reflect and concentrate the sunlight in one place - "Receive" which is located on top of 550 feet (1 foot = 30.48 cm) tower.
At this "Receiver" the special fluid is used - molten salt, which absorbs the heat.
This salt can be stored till we need electricity (one of the key advantages of the system)
Then the heat is used to generate a steam which in its turn is used in a steam turbine to produce electricity.
So we get 100% renewable with 0 harmful emissions energy which
enough to supply 75,000 homes with electricity during peak demand periods

To install this system we need a lot of people hence they get a job

This setup makes sense to me. Mirrors all aimed at a collector, heat up and heat is stored, used as needed to drive a steam electric generator. It looks like it covers a lot of ground, but it is an interesting alternative to solar cells.

The entire process sounds so simple, it's ingenious. One of the issues plaguing regular solar panel technology is storage, especially on a large scale. This seems to have solved that with the use of molten salt.

When I was a kid, one of the worst feelings was related to loadshedding. No electricity meant no tv programs and it was so frustrating at that time. Fast forward....25 years later, 12 hours loadshedding is still a normal thing in my part of the world. And you know how bad it feels when you know that you're living technologically in the most advanced times and producing electricty for humans is not a big deal yet you keep it that way year after year and generation after generation...because you don't want to solve this problem. SolarReserve can generate 100% harmless energy to provide electricity to 75000 homes during peak hours. If govt adopt this product, they can at least solve the electricity problem. Great hunt.

It uses a lot of mirror to concentrate solar light to one place and then it uses salt to preserve that heat and then it is used to generate steam and then that steam is used to run the turbine to generate power, this is in deed a great technology where the green houses gas emission is not there and fully renewable source of energy is utilized for electricity generation. great hunt by you.

Electricity or power generation is one of the major problems of the third world countries. I do personally feel SolarReserve is a superb and very much effective methodology to produce the electricity with an alternative way. It surely is very cheap and less complex than the traditional methodologies to produce the electricity.

The mirrors "capture" the sun's energy and at a certain angle point to the focal point.
The high temperature is used to heat the salt solution!
This solution serves as a heat energy accumulator to be used when needed.
That heat will turn the Water in the steam we use in generators to get electricity.

What a niche invention to generate electricity on demand from alternative sources. I can see, they have listed India in their development activity, so I hope, we will see some projects in India as well. All the current electricity generation projects typically runs on loss, because of loss in transmission. I am not sure, how that will affect this project. Will watch and see.
