Hunter's comment
For North American birders, the field guide to bird identification of birds smart phone app of choice is often the Sibley app. For years David Sibley, one of the premier birding gurus, artists and field guide authors has led the pack of North American field guides with his field guide, both the "big" Sibley Guide that covers all of North America, and the smaller eastern and western editions.
More recently many birders have adoped the very handy smart phone app version of the Sibley Guide. This allows having a top-quality field guide along with you without carrying an extra book.
Now the second edition of the phone app is available, and novice and serious birders will find this a must-have birding tool.
Features:
- Over 800 Species
- Songs and Call Notes of most species
- Range maps, detailed identification information on each species
- Subspecies and regional variation differences.
- Length, weight and wing measurements.

This seems pretty cool! Does it cover worldwide, or just America?

Just North America. David Sibley is a noted U.S. birder, and his brand really covers just the ABA area. Thanks for the question.

Hi @birdbanter,
Thanks for your hunt but it seems that this app is only available on Amazon anymore?
Couldn’t find it for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and... well who still checks for BlackBerry?
Do you have any photos of the app actually still being functional? The comments on the page also date from 2011.
While there isn’t really an explicit rule about “not available products”, it makes it a not product for me if not available anywhere anymore (the amazon listing may be because they don’t scan for incompatible platforms/apps).

It is easily found on the apple app store, and I believe also on the android store too. The exact name on the iPhone app store is Sibley Birds Second Edition. I thought we could not put links to the app store, but just to the web site itself?

Why I asked. This is what happens when I click the product link on the website linked. Which is normal since if the app is that old and the website isn’t update chances are that the app is not 64-bit only either.
My regional is US account btw.
If a website exists, website takes priority over the App Store. Games are allowed ONLY if they have a website.
If the website links to an older version as seems the case... then the website is not the ideal link. In the end we want to create the best experience for the user.
So I can find Sibley Birds 2nd Edition if I search it.
But not sure that should be the task of reviewer. That’s a horrible user experience for site visitors. Most site visitors would think the app is dead.
If you want to stay “neutral”, best is to hunt the website, and include ios and Android links at the end of the hunt. Then the site visitor can immediately choose their own preferred platform.

From a birder's point of view having a quality phone birding field guide is a basic everyday tool that every serious and beginning birder has to have. As field guides to the Sibley guides are simply superb. David Sibley brings the unusual convergence of talents to the table. He is a world renowned birder, a superb artist, and a very good writer. Owning this app is a no-brainer for any aspiring North American birder.
