Sid Meier's Civilization V is an excellent 4X turn based strategy game. It allows you to play as one of the 43 civilizations (you can check the wiki here to see a full list of them) and build your empire starting from Ancient Era, 4000BC.
In Civilization V you can:
- Conquer the world playing as Gandhi
- Pay back a certain country for their war crimes
- Explore the world
- Expand your cities
- Force others to follow your religion
and much more.
Civilization V is made interesting by the fact that there are many ways to victory - you can achieve triumph either through domination, science, diplomacy, or culture.
Even though the game contains many different playable nations, most of them play quite differently - while playing Portugal one might preffer to utilize its naval trade routes, yet while playing the Huns one might want to dominate his opponents as quickly as possible.
Although Civilization V has few years now, its constantly modified by the players - Vox Populi being the most popular mod.

Hey! According to the guidelines, it's fine if its been updated recently, and in a way it is a game that is constantly 'updated' with new mods being made and I wanted to make sure to talk about it in my post. Anyway, thanks and I will stick to newer products in the future to avoid confusion. :-)
