Blot, is yet another blogging platform with an interesting difference. It doesn't have any interface. It uses Dropbox as a storage backend and syncs the blog posts from your Dropbox directory.
It can create posts from different kind of formats like Markdown, HTML, MS Word documents, etc. Markdown is enough for everything, though. It has 7 minimalist and simple templates ready to use. If you're a developer, you can also create your own templates.
You can specify the post metadata on the posts' markdown file.

Every blog comes with a free subdomain. They also have support to use custom domains.
If you like minimalist and simple blogs and want to focus on writing, blot.im is a good option. It costs $20 per year to host a blog on the platform.
One thing I can complain about is the limited backend options. Storing the files on a private GIT repository might be perfect. Having a platform depending on another platform doesn't sound good.

it's pretty cool idea for non tech savvy people, but if they know few git commands, I guess Github pages is probably better in every aspect (and it's free).
