Xiaomi’s slowly rolling out Mi 9 SE, or Mi 9 light, phone is a mixed bag.
Ticks all the right boxes for a phone below $400. The ultimate Flagship Lite phone: in-screen fingerprint scanner, triple camera with 48MP main camera, tele-cam and ultra-wide cam, 20MP selfie shooter, NFC.
Perfectly marketable specs. Triple AI camera FTW!
Great for the dopamine crowd who live their lives double tapping on IG & bubbling in FB.
Yet, it is an absolute letdown. A letdown for performance lovers.
The Mi 9 SE comes with great features but it also comes with a non P3 certified Super Amoled screen. Comes with the energy optimized SD712 socket which is ok but not great.
Buy this phone only if you care about having a showcase phone. A phone to show.
It’s the phone cannibalized in every aspect by the year old Mi 8. The Mi 8 which nowadays sells at the same price as the Mi 9 SE and outperforms the SE in everything.
A decent phone created for marketshare purposes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's MIUI so comes with bootlocker unlock option. :)
But I wouldn't experiment too much on that processor. And putting another ROM on it will remove the GAME Turbo, which is probably the most compelling.
If want a cheap phone with easy flashing... MI 8 with the much more compelling SD845 all day.

I did not meant that deep experimentation. Just apps level and some inter-sensor reactions/interactivity.
But nice to know anyway. I have been quite away of rootings or flashing... after iPhone 5... Maybe I got soft... don't know... just don't have the same reasons to do it.

Same here. And nowadays with performance of phones there really is no reason to anymore. Well unless you're hardcore.
But it's not like 2018/19 midrange budget phones suffer. You're not going to increase the performance like going vanila droid back in the days of Galaxy S2. Back when bloatware properly slowed down a phone.

Definitely not hardcore anymore... maybe in 2006... when reprogramming switches algorithms and multicast software on IPV6... by then it was fun to change Everything! Miss those times. 🤓
