If you want to create a media wiki for learning purposes similar to Wikipedia, then you should consider to pick MediaWiki as a solution.
MediaWiki is an open source application that can be used for all wikis, as well as on Wikipedia.
You can install it on localhost or on another server, let me show you one example of learning media developed by SpeedyWiki that uses MediaWiki as its software.
