Started by one of my business school alumni, blablacar is the world's largest car pooling service. The idea behind it originated because when om Christmas, one of the founders found it difficult to get home in the French countryside as trains were full and no other modes off transport were available.
After getting the site ready and seeing the community grow organically, the founder went to business school to scale the business.
The service offers affordable travel within Europe and is a life saver. Present in 22 countries and 40 million customers strong, the company has grown strongly.
Do check it out if you haven't, as you can get transport within cities based on your suitability.

I really do consider it affordable. You never have to worry about late arrival to places if you find yourself in need to get to a place.
