Oryx Vision brings us a true coherent optical radar system that simply free the autonomous cars and make them see better and farther. This allows them to take better decisions and out stand even a human driver considering the big amount of data he has at his fingertip to analyze, interpret and act accordingly.
The novelty of the technology is that this radar is compound from a small antenna that uses electromagnetic waves for object detection. This way it is imperturbable by the external factors like sun, rain, fog or other meteorological phenomenons.
Nonetheless the antennas come to a price cheaper than the current LIDAR system, those making them more affordable for the large scale. Solid state structure with no mechanism which makes it more durable.

Great hunt. Would have been nicer if i could install it for a different purpose. I have trouble driving at night on lowly lit streets and this would have been super useful. However, given its availability being limited to OEMs and autonomous cars, i cant make use of it now. Nonetheless, autonomous driving is the future and LiDARs seem to be better that cameras and image processing algos.
