I don't necessarily think this game is a futuristic FPS. Sure it takes place in the future but one of the aspects of the game is that the characters haven't really made much progress due to a a nuclear disaster - if anything they have only experienced set backs. The tools they use are less advanced than some of the stuff the military uses today.
