Hi, meet the Lightyear One a statement car you can drive on the power of the sun, a car with a solar panel on the top. These sexy renderings come from a company called Lightyear, and while details are few, it may become the first solar-powered car to be sold. The company make sure on the battery that you can use this car anytime day or night.
The Lightyear One has a capability to used solar power and you can take anywhere from range 400 up to 800 km for a month without charging. You can charge this car using the sun or any power plug in your home their lofty goal of a range of 800 km or about 500 miles per charge.

Awesome hunt and was just a matter of time until we saw something like this come long. I imagine it will be insanely expensive, to begin with, but will follow the path of the majority of new technologies and become accessible to everyone soon enough. it has a solar panel on the roof that enables the car to be charged with sunlight while you are driving and it has a very strong battery that can enable you to travel to a long distance when the car is charged

Although I think this feature is mainly a gimmic due to a low efficiency and high cost, I've been waiting for it. I'm sure it have an appeal for many and a nice safety feature if you got "stranded" somewhere - knowing, with time, you will eventually be avle to drive out =)

Nice idea, but i think its more or less just an electric car. Because with only a small area for the solar panels there is just not enough power coming in to charge the car sufficiently.
I think if you use the car everyday the the solar power contributes to less than 10% of the energy used to drive the car. In the end you need to charge the batteries with a conventional charger like all electric cars.
