Witnesses are essential to the Steem blockchain. It's their servers that process all our posts, comments, votes and transactions.


The blockchain requires the Witnesses to run fairly hardcore servers, but once that's all set up, the Witnesses in the Top 20 make thousands of dollars worth of Steem Power a month.


The expectation that anyone in the Top 20 should also be adding a lot to Planet Steem, whether by systems that enhance the blockchain, applications, SP delegation to projects, etc etc.


Every Steem member should vote for a witness. If you're not sure who to vote for, and none of these names look familiar, I'd suggest @curie and @utopian-io since without these two curation projects, almost everyone else would leave Steem.
