Account creation is one of the biggest roadblocks to mass adoption of the Steem Blockchain, most people find themselves waiting a week for their account... you can see it in the #introduceyourself tag... almost everyone mentions the wait time.
Obviously in this instant-gratification society, we're losing a lot of people that don't get involved if they can't access something immediately. I know I'm guilty of exactly that.
SteemCreate is a third party product designed to streamline the process and offer an Account Recovery service if you lose your WIF. It's simple to follow and nicely set out.
I initially balked at the cost, but now that I've thought about it, it works out. $45USD to have your account set up, but you get $36 in Steem in your account (to help get over bandwidth issues, etc). This means SteemCreate is making $9 to simplify the process and offer people that account recovery. There is also a cost to Steem Inc for account creation which I think is about 2 Steem ($6USD at the moment).
There are definitely other alternatives out there...

gotta be honest http://steeminvite.com is better and much cheaper. not sure if we want to be saying that people need to pay $45 to get a steem account. seems very middleman. ..

I feel the same way... it does seem like the witness who set this up is trying to profit... but I'm also aware that I probably don't know all the processes/facts involved.

i do know some of the facts, originally it was jerry banfield and someone else set this up. i would not use this service.

Ahhhh.... no way, I heard about this controversy. I actually thought it was a different witness that set this up. Thanks for the heads up. Really important to know.
