In 2011 when MSi introduced gen3 motherboard with 3PCIe x16 slot many miners used that one for gpu mining with multiple cards . But riser card made x1 slot more popular, reason adding many gpus in a single board. But it is true that on board x16 slot gives better hashrate than onboard x1 slot to risers external x16. May be this is one of the reasons manufacturers now starts adding more x16 slots in motherboard.
Recently BIOSTAR launched TB250-BTC D+ 8-GPU riser-free motherboard. Instead of atx power supply you will have to use server PSU. They said it will reduce setup cost, power consumption and more machines in small space. As it is Intel B250 chipset board Nvidia GeForce will be more suited but not all Nvidia card . I will review some other article about most suitable GPus specially this type of motherboard .One important thing is, if you use all 8 slots there will be no space for passing air. which can cause over hitting and damage. So extra cooling need to be arrange if you want
