In his famous 1992 track, Heal the World, the great pop legend, Michael Jackson, called on the good people of the world to heal the world, to make the world a better place for the generations yet unborn.
It would seem that @Ned answered this noble call when he created the Steem blockchain and built Steemit on it. While @Ned may have had several thoughts running through his brilliant mind when conceiving the idea of Steemit, one thing is certain: that Steemit has turned out to be a blessing to this generation.
In less than two years of its existence, Steemit has created millionaires and fostered human relationships across the globe. In this article, I will be discussing some interesting ways through which Steemit is healing our world:
Steemit Is Changing the Definition of Work
Prior to the advent of Steemit, work is often generally defined as a stressful or demanding task which must be completed in return for a compensation which is usually monetary.
Steemit is changing this definition quite rapidly. On Steemit, there is a growing number of people who make a decent living from the comfort of their homes by blogging about their passions. These Steemians are rewarded with Steem which can then be traded for fiat money. With Steemit, the idea of work does not have to be the 9am to 4pm ritual.
Steemit Is Fighting Abject Poverty and Youth Unemployment.
Steemit is presently helping to tackle the problems of abject poverty in developing countries of Africa and Asia. In Nigeria, for instance, Steemit is providing several unemployed youths with an opportunity to earn basic income by merely creating creative contents on the Steemit blockchain. How best can one heal the world?
As I write, 1 Steem trades for as low as $1.6. As ridiculous as this may seem, a Steem can provide a decent breakfast for an average Nigerian or Ghanaian. With due respect to African countries, the point I am trying to make is that Steemit is tackling abject poverty and youth unemployment in developing countries. The testimony is all over the Steem blockchain.
Steemit Is Exposing Facebook
One of the ways through which Steemit is making the world a better place is that it is exposing monsters like Facebook. Facebook is currently the largest social network site in the world. However, it does not reward the individual members who create contents to make it relevant and profitable. Recently, Facebook was implicated in a data mining scandal that shook the world.
Steemit is currently a thorn in the flesh of Facebook. This is because, with a relatively smaller audience, Steemit is rewarding thousands of its users who are creating quality contents. Beyond reward, also, Steemit appears to be the only social network site which can be trusted with data. This is largely because Steemit is decentralized which makes the manipulation of data nearly impossible.
Steemit Is Breaking Racial and Cultural Barriers
Steemit is one of the few online platforms which gives everyone a sense of belonging. On Steemit, there is neither Jews nor Gentiles; everyone needs to interact in order to grow and make progress.
And the beautiful thing is that an upvote has no colour. It doesn't matter whether you're black or white, whether you are pink or yellow, you will be judged by the contents of your blog posts rather than the colour of your skin. This is how Steemit is breaking racial and cultural barriers across different corners of the world.
Steemit is Democratizing the Use of Social Network Sites
One ugly thing about the mainstream social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter is that they are heavily regulated by the government. This means that regulatory bodies may take down one's account by just a click of the button. You should be surprised by the recent news of President Donald Trump's Twitter account being "mistakenly" taken down.
Steemit is democratizing the social network space, making it impossible for one central authority to delete an account or take down any information which conflicts with their ideology. The summary is that, Steemit gives freedom, the freedom to be yourself.
I will conclude by saying that I believe strongly in the Steemit project. It is a project which sets out to make the world a better place, for you and for me, and the entire human race. It may take sometime but Steemit will surely create a new world order.
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make it a better place
For you and for me
- Michael Jackson
