Why would you waste your time giving Mark Zuckerberg your money and ideas when you can utilise it to your own benefit and to the benefit of others?
Do you Really love Candycrush that much? If your answer is yes then stick to the mindless noise at FB. If your answer is no then you should check out Steemit.
Do you tell people when you're going to the airport and what you had for breakfast? You can find the right people in the Steemit chats to do that with :) Just don't post it, unless it has some true meaning that you think people will enjoy!! Alternatively, if that's your thing and you enjoy waving people off and looking at other peoples scrambled eggs stick to FB.
Do you like freedom? Do you like money? Do you like intelligence? If yes, then you're heading in the right direction. If not, stick to FB.
Do you enjoy creating things, learning things, challenging yourself and meeting great people? Then you're heading in the right direction.
Do you believe that people can change the world as we know it? Do you believe that you might be one of those people? Do you believe that as a community we can achieve greatness? If yes you're heading in the right direction.
Would you like to start a new adventure with the chance of fulfilling some and possibly all of the above? If your answer is yes, it's time to start changing the way you think. Whether you have a specific field of expertise, are already a blogger, have various interesting outlooks on life or whatever it may be you should consider joining the community. IT IS ABSOLUTELY FREE!! It DOESN'T cost you a cent!!
These great doodles by @atopy are a True reflection when it comes to modern day Social Media. In the world of Facebook ,as an example, it is actually really empty. It is filled with junk that holds no real value or meaning to me. Sure, it helps me keep tab on our friends and families movements however it adds no REAL value. There are only a few members there that mean something to me and add value to my life. If, for example, you're heading off from some airport somewhere, I REALLY DON'T CARE, unless you're my wife 😁
Basically all you're really doing at the moment is filling up your life with useless content where you could be filling up your life with REAL VALUE, both from a monetary as well as a personally fulfilling perspective. Just think about that for a moment. You scroll through your Facebook feed and every so often you come across something that might make you chuckle or tug at your heart strings a bit. Most of the time that something has merely been copied off of the internet and pasted into Facebook. You know, that sort of thing. You're mostly limited to being in contact with your contacts and the information you give and receive is based on that. You have re-established contact with some old school acquaintances with whom you have no intention of actually communicating with. You see people sharing all their magical moments that actually don't mean anything to you. Sure, there are some that you do enjoy however those are few and far between. It's superficial and it doesn't add true value to you as an individual. I'll be fair though. I still use the platform for adding photos, kind of as a backup of photo memories as well as to see what some of my peeps are up to. For the most part though, I'd rather invest my extra time into Steemit as opposed to filling someone else's pocket. As for looking at it from a business and fund raising perspective it still has its place. On Steemit though, I've seen charitable causes receiving superb support!! The community enjoys supporting those in need.
What makes the Steemit platform so different is you can actually REALLY choose what you want to see AND you can make some money out of it as well. You can earn money by commenting on posts you REALLY enjoy. You can make money by creating your own posts, like this one you're reading right now. You can choose exactly what you like, who you like and what you want to do!! THINK ABOUT THAT FOR A MOMENT.
So what am I saying? I'm simply saying that for me, personally, I don't want to be that person in the Facebook car. I'm not the person in that Facebook car!! Since I joined the Steemit Community I have found a new found passion!! I just love the way it works and makes me feel. It has turned me into the person in the Steemit car that's now singing along to loud music while driving!! Perhaps it can do the same for you too, I don't know. Only you can answer that question. In my opinion there are many different ways you can find joy on the Steemit platform. From blogging, chatting, commenting, learning and so much more. There is a place for everyone!!
Therefore, if you've come this far then there must be something in here that interests you. Whether it's this article, the doodles or just plain curiosity, that isn't important. What is important though is that from here you can take the next step and that step would be to click on the following link: https://steemit.com/welcome/@sndbox/welcome-to-steemit-an-introductory-guide-for-creatives. This is merely another article that has been created by someone else on Steemit and it gives you an easy to understand getting started breakdown. Alternatively you can just download the Steemit app and observe what's going on for a while. It's called Esteem and you can download it from the Google Playstore.
Again, just as a reminder, it doesn't cost you a single cent, not a dime, not a penny, not now, not ever!! You simply join and start doing your thing!!
Here are a few starting points to remember from when you intitially sign up on steemit.com:
1- You'll receive a very long password. Write it down, double check, triple check and KEEP IT SAFE!! It's currency you're dealing with after all. Check this post on your Steemit passwords https://steemit.com/steemit-guides/@pfunk/a-user-s-guide-to-the-different-steem-keys-or-passwords
2- Learn some basic HTML formatting in order to start blogging. Here is one I've been using. This is all you need to get started https://steemit.com/steemit/@thecryptofiend/markdown-basics-for-beginners. It's an old post but still very relevant :):)
3- Browse around a bit and see what the people get up to. Have a look at the different tags and see how the people introduce themselves as a guideline for yourself to introduce yourself.
4- Make some time to read through the FAQ. There is lots of extra information there which will prove useful.
5- Remember, there are bots on the platform as well. Some are good and some are not. Be aware of following a bad bot. Here is a post by one of the top authors on Steemit that will give you a relatively good idea about the bots https://steemit.com/spam/@stellabelle/can-you-flag-one-account-of-this-botnet-farming-scheme-spaminators-needs-your-help-right-now
6- You'll be getting lots of follow me I'll follow you and upvote me I'll upvote you types of responses. Don't go down that route. Upvote and follow those that add value to you!!
Thank you for reading!!! If you like what you see start sharing it with your friends on whichever platform it is you're currently using. If not, share it anyway. One of your friends might well like it and become the next Steemit Superstar!!!

Awesome post @therneau, totally agree with you! I hardly look at Facebook now, but the advertising is still a good tool for our guesthouse, and as you say, good to keep in touch but as for Candycrush etc, never appealed to me...but loving the steemit experience!

Hehe, don't worry. My wife still likes Candy Crush :) I asked her if she'd share my post on FB and it was a firm "No", lol. Perhaps one day when she feels she has a bit more time on her hands she'll give Steemit a bash :) Thanks for the awesome doodles :):)
