A natural compound with strawberry fruit can help prevent Alzheimer's and other age-related neurological diseases, according to a recent US study.
The study was conducted by researchers at the Salik Institute of Biological Studies in California and published in the journal Journals of Gerontology Series A.
The team studied a group of mice to identify the relationship between strawberry eating and the prevention of neurological diseases associated with aging.
The researchers found that strawberry mice had decreased rates of cognitive decline and encephalitis to contain strawberries on a compound called Fisetin.
The group said Vesitin is also found in a variety of fruits and vegetables, including apples, grapes, onions and cucumbers.
The study indicated that this compound has antioxidant properties, which means it can help reduce inflammation and damage to cells caused by aging.
The researchers believe their findings suggest that Vesitin may lead to a new prevention strategy from Alzheimer's, as well as other neurological diseases associated with aging.
They said they hoped to conduct more clinical trials on humans to confirm the results in mice.
