Add a Resolved (or similar) Button?

Add the ability to mark a Topic as "Resolved" or otherwise.

This would be especially useful in Categories for "issues". Currently the choices are to edit the post once the issue is resolved to notify the Community that further discussion is not necessarily necessary on the topic. However, this removes any upvotes that the topic received.

The other option is to create a new reply to the topic updating everyone that the Topic has been resolved, however this will go unnoticed until someone clicks the Topic and may still go unnoticed by some who do not see the reply (assuming there are a lot of replies to that topic).

I'm not sure if editing the "Summary" field currently resets upvotes, if it does perhaps that could be changed to not remove upvotes. That way a notice could be placed in the Summary field, "UPDATE : THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED", for instance, updating everyone that the topic is resolved.

Or perhaps give the OP the ability to close/lock a topic once it has been resolved to their satisfaction, although that seems like a less elegant approach which may cause the discussion to branch off into other newly created topics if others felt the discussion was not yet resolved to their satisfaction.

Disclaimer : I'm thinking/typing out loud here and am open to any better solution(s). But overall I think any ability to mark a topic as Solved/Closed/Resolved would be beneficial.

Clearly the votes should not be reset for updating metadata associated with a post.

We could always use the UP vote to mark it resolved...
