Steemit Feed Filter Proposal Rough Draft. I have encountered a problem recently of people I follow who post too much and I can't see the people I WANT to see! But i don't want to unfollow, maybe the feed should work like Facebook showing us posts from people we interact with most?

I feel like this would be something very simple to implement, if its not already been done

I apologize if this is already an option on busy.org or chainBB or steemdb, but I think steemit.com should have an option to tweak your home feed and sallow slider bars to allow you to show more or hide more of certain people you follow

For example, as you can see above, some people in my feed happen to be posting so many photos over and over that its looking like spam and yet Its not spam, its just mmes and i don't want to punish them with an unfollow just for getting excited and posting a lot in one day, its not like its everyday all day, but I would like to hide these posts automatically and Id like my feed to show more posts from certain people on my feed that i tend to actually want to upvote and NOT just show whatever posts happen to be posted by whoever I follow, because all the high quality posts get buried in a bunch of low quality posts! , from certain people I follow, and not just hales but also many minnows who I know will become dolphins and whales soon, and Id like to support them without having to hunt them down in my own home feed!

(wow steemd.com has a built in chat? and busy.org lets you hide resteems?!?!?)

Its becoming a problem for many people, their own feeds become diluted and they dont want to use steemit because of this! The feed should have more options, a filter AND there should be SUB feeds, maybe THIS is a way to finally have the Subreddit type system I have dreamed about having on steemit since day 1 of me joining in March...and I will never give up in my point that the customizable subreddit system is too important to not have here, it allows for tight niot little communities and if we had those here on steemit theyd be SO powerful imagine a whale just hanging out in his own sub steemit room all day with like minded people and our own steemit subcultures would grow like reddit and thats why reddit is so popular with its 240 million users....we can claim that market, the subreddit market of creating a cool place to share similar themed content, and for example The_Donald subreddit would be HAPPY to migrate over to steemit if they actually had a similar type of setup where they can customize the banner image, the font the text and the background image etc, along with having admins and moderators, but maybe THIS is why we can't have that on steemit because we dont have moderators? Well a whale can be assigned to "moderate" a sub-Steemit and simply flag abusive content but it would only hide it or remove its rewards it wouldnt stop the comments but maybe thats a good thing! And maybe the moderators can "moderate" in a different ay than by simple force of removing and banning users or comments or posts...

(I should really be using a tool like this to view ALL my social media accounts at one time! We should all be doing that!)

I really think the two ideas can be merged, the filter for the home feed to allow steemit users to better filter what content they see on their feed and to increase the amount of posts from certain people they follow, AND the idea of sub steemits like sub reddits, because the two ideas are both just about having a more customizable steemit xperience

and honestly maybe instead of creating ANOTHER busy.org or chainBB we could just create a Google Chrome Extension for Steem Blockchain or steemit.com and call it the STEEMIT ENHANCEMENT SUITE like the Reddit Enhancement Suite, but for steemit! We could build ourselves So many features and upgrades and addons without having to hard for the steem blockchain! Totaly non invasive! The chrome extension would simply take all the data from your steemit home feed and rearrange it and organize it more to your liking depending on how often to visit certain peoples pages and maybe even how much time you spend reading certain peoples blogs and posts.

Hey @ackza, Great stuff. I'm glad I found someone with the same idea I had when I first came to Steemit. Yes it's hard to find relevant content and tags are not helping.

I originally was writing my comment and proposed my idea here about adding subreddits on Steemit. But I moved it into a separate post I just created.

Basically, I suggest we call them Substeemits. I explained how this can be implemented and how it can solve finding relevant content on Steemit.

Find my comment post here

Yes. The current setup of Steemit's main site is very lacking.

I am not sure how far along they are in improving the interface.

Some things we need to see implemented before it can becomre more useable to the average person.

Tags, tags right now you have to search in a custom google search bar. If you search for something a lot of the time that "tag"won't show up, what will show up is someone's post with that tag in it. So you have to click on that post, then you can click the tag. A way I found around that is to click into any tag, and replace the part in the webaddress bar with what you want. That is a very basic thing that should have been fixed awhile ago.

Second thing is yes substeemits would be great, but then we couldn't tag things. It would be very weird. Imagine if reddit let you use tags and also let you keep the subreddits. Not sure how that would turn out. Very confusing Iwould imagine. What takes precedence when searching? The tag or the subreddits "tags". Youtube lets you have custom tags for your YT channel and you can have hundreds of words, maybe something like that that directs people. I dunno! hehe.

third, we need a less laggy interface on here. When I open up my wallet it lags. When i open other peoples' it lags too, especially larger steemians.

Fourth, image linking doesn't always pull the image in. I don't usually download a picture and drag and drop it into my post. What I do is copy and paste a link to that picture. A lot of the time on my mobile this doesn't work. It has the link there but doesn't load the picture, even though the link is directling to the picture, and yes Iam using the insert link picture tool.

Just some things Inoticed!

I believe that Tags should not take precedence in any case, much like Reddit. The idea is, like in Reddit, you just go to the subreddit and find the latest upvoted posts. You won't have to rely on search to find content that is relevant to the subreddit.

I guess it's hard to implement that without changing the whole interface on Steemit. I'm trying this substeemit idea as "updated posts" like what @ocd and @curie are doing, but so far it doesn't seem to be working.

Or maybe there needs to be more people being aware that there are more accounts other than @ocd trying to find valuable content and put it together thematically in one place. I'm still trying to find my way around here. It's hard to get feedback, not as easy as a reddit question that you post on a thread. Maybe chatrooms can be a solution to discuss that substeemit idea, we'll see.

theres going to be ALOT of improvements made with our tag system and because were decentralized and get to change things more organically unlike facebook or twitter we will end up getting to create some really cool hashtag organizational tools and systems to reorganize everything alot better

The feed should have more options, a filter AND there should be SUB feeds, maybe THIS is a way to finally have the Subreddit type system I have dreamed about having

I second that...make @ackza's dreams come true and give us more filters!

Excellent post @ackza!

I've had a similar idea recently, made a post about it and mentioned your's in there too. Let me know what you think!

https://steemit.com/steemit/@futuristgear/how-to-make-the-steemit-feed-better-a-simple-idea

For new Steemian the "I follow you if you follow me" is good to amass a following especially when starting out but this tends to backfire as your feed tends to clog up with many many post that will drown out post that maybe interesting to you. Although I have a number of people I am "following" I only interact with a very few of those who I follow. The idea to list feed based on interaction is a very good idea.

yes i just did a whole rant about follow me follow u is bad and i seepeoipl acting liek straight up bots doing this all thetime
i go off and get mad and tell people u cant just go do follow for folow

Thanks for Share. upvotes & like your post!

I totally agree, I am just starting out and trying to amass followers without following back tends to be difficult. I am just trying to figure out what my niche is. What i want to post about and hope that the followers come rather then trading followers for people who post things i'm not interested in.

I just found out a solution is to try using busy.org and logging in with ur steemit account and posting key and u can start viewing your steemit feed a lot different and more useful ways u can really do a lot (its still steem blockchain ur just using busy.org instead of steemit.com to access it also beta.chainbb.com is another method made by @jesta where u can organize steemit posts into forums like a classic message board and it is yet another way to organize posts or see what you want to see, it lets you see all the posts for #cannabis for example instead of just the trending cannabis posts on steemit.com/trending/cannabis on chainbbthe cannabis section is actually in chronological orderor showsthe post with recent reply at the topp, and its just way easier to use or more useful, so its an exampel of how steemit can b used, decentralized websiotes are the future we ate SO early

what peopel dont get is that in teh future everyon will just be using steem blokchain to be on social media if they want to actualy not waste thir time, services like instagram will just die like Vine did, and steemit will be also taing users from reddit, reddit will have to reinstante their crypto currency walet with Reddit Notes which they never did aftr proimising to share money with reddit users who have the most karma etc, its so lame and they nmever even did it!

So when people worry about price iof steem going low and never going abopve $1 its fooliosh no steem will be at $1000 in a few uyears and everyione will be on steemit trying to make goo content, there will be plentyof minnow suport groups and it will be a form of universal basic income in a way, burt we will make jobs for peope who need to work and make money and we will help people organize content and repost it in a valuable way we will show people hopw they can make educational pots as part of steemit university and we can TEACH online and alow unemployed adults with knowledge to be a online teacher to children we can educate using steemit! when the teacher shows how he got his class to al comment on some post he makes about the first days class, he can show steemit and he can get paid by his upvoptes! i just KNOW we can create some clever system like to create work for peopel who need it when we start to have millions and milliosn fo users here, but look atr reddit theres over 200 million reddit users and theres still plenty of content, new content is made everyday and honestly theres SO much stuff to photogarph and document on this planet, we will always have content to make money off! people will be using steemit like an advertising website but teh ads will BE INSIDE of individual posts!!!!

comments and blog posts on steemit will HAVE ADS insideof them som already do! affiliate and referal links are ads! and people make money of that AND the steem from thir posts!

I agree, having a way to filter out different categories would be awesome. And maybe there should be a separate section for people you follow and you can choose who is in there and how often they appear (kind of like the sliders for Google News if anyone knows what I'm talking about).

thanks for share
