How much Steem Power (SP) does one need to be relevant on steemit?

I have been around for a while on steemit, so far I have gathered 18 steem power. I do a lot of voting everyday but less commenting. I observed that the voting does little or no advantage to me unlike posting. So I am wondering how much Steem Power I need for the voting to make sense?

Based on what I read from the White Paper, the rate at which your curation rewards increase in proportion to your steem-power is nonlinear.

They point out that someone who has invested to have about 200 steem power gains a very significant amount of reward increase compared to having just 5 steem power or 0.

But increasing from, say, 50,000 to 100,000 steem power is not going to provide such a drastic difference as those first few hundreds of steem power do.

It's clever! Sometimes the underside of Steem resembles a MMO computer game more than a social platform.

I wish they had any explanation about the influence of these factors.
Like a video or something.

I may try to write up a tutorial about this once I understand it myself.

Good question, does anyone know the answer?

TL;DR - The first few hundred of Steem power you add have the greatest effect on your curation rewards, the rate of increase slows down quickly after that so you have to add more and more Steem power to see the same amount of increase.

lol wut

what do mean by adding? buying or generate by posting and voting?

Doesn't matter which way you acquire it.
