APPICS, the first Smart Media Token based on Steemit

The Steemit social network is one of the most significant blockchain experiences in the social 2.0 environment, an interesting combination between the features of these new forms of digital communities and the potentialities of Distributed Accounting Technology (DLT). Its blockchain has a new tool that will allow the creation of tokens, called Smart Media Token (SMT), and APPICS, an Instagram style social network, will be the first to take advantage of this element.

APPICS is a mobile social networking application that runs on the Steemit blockchain and was created with full support from Steemit Inc., where, like Steemit, users receive rewards in cryptoactive when creating and reviewing on the contents of the platform. The difference is that APPICS focuses on the instant exchange of tokens, specifically rewarding the creation and consumption of visual content - images and videos - similar to what Instagram poses, according to a shared post in Steemit.

In this way, the Smart Media Token protocol will have its first practical application in the hands of the ambitious APPICS project, which seeks to put blockchain at the service of visual creators globally. The platform was founded by Tony Winchester, a renowned user of Steemit for being part of the first miners and dealers of Bitcoin, who has focused his attention on the potentialities of social networks and influencers; Uma Hagenguth entrepreneur specializing in digital business transition; and Sandro Ieva, who has worked with blockchain and also in the creation of websites and visual contents.

The APPICS platform will serve as a mobile social networking application that returns an equitable share of the value created back to the source, namely, social network users, back to the creators and curators of the network.

The platform will have a total of 15 categories: lifestyle, travel, music, fashion, makeup, games, sports, fitness, dance art, comedy, news, food, technology, charity. The latter will allow projects and users to raise financing campaigns, generating resources for their charitable goals from the creation of visual content of charity.

In addition, there will be 4 extra categories to empower the APPICS community: "popular", which presents content trends; "Challenges" consisting of viral trends gathered by the community; "Live" where the users who are transmitting live and finally "welcome" where the new users have the opportunity to highlight their first publication to gain popularity.

The project will offer an Initial Currency Offer (ICO) in the coming weeks, although the date and sales scheme of the APPICS coin token (XAP) has not been specified.

SMT, A TOOL FOR CONTENT MONITORING
The goal of the Smart Media Token is that any of the more than 350,000 users of the platform can create their own token similar to STEEM in the blockchain of the social network, according to Steemit CEO Ned Scott in a post posted in your account on the network. Unlike other popular token-creation protocols, such as Ethereum's ERC-20, the SMT will allow "content companies to leverage those tokens by aligning incentives between users and applications," according to the whitepaper.
