Hi. Alberto here trying to figure out steemit. Looks fun and full of content to be discovered. I am working as a librarian and work with books (cliche). Yet, internet has becoming more of a modern library with unlimited sources nowadays. Beat me, but my role became less and less important as in the eyes or our client. Some of my colleagues would be in denial but day by day its proven to be true. Number of physical library visiting getting lesser every year. Printed books usage number dropped steadily with new low point every year. Plus, just search for any previous research regarding information seeking behaviour among students and you will see many findings will support my statement.
The role of library and librarian changed drastically over the year. The term bookworm is almost unheard of. Steemit is another platform of information sources. And its free. Only count your internet, devices (electronic), electricity cost and all the knowledge is available for you in various formats. Go to the library? Beat the traffic and cost of your valuable gas?
Having said all that, we the librarian has to wear our thinking cap and come out with what we should do to stay relevant. We asked our users of course, they only need our physical space to socialize or have meetings to solve their real life problem. Talk bout The Fourth Industrial Revolution generation huh? And they are new generations coming in and out.
I am the last librarian hired in my institution for the past 7 years. And i am not too old myself. 😅
