Blog, get payed? ...Steemit not paying anymore?

in steemit •  7 years ago

I got the feeling that steemit is not the amazing platform it used to be... Most of my comments and posts only received some pennies while a couple of months ago I easily got a few dollars... What is going on? Any change in the policies I missed? Can anyone help please?

Hope someone can clarify what is going on and help me to perform better..

I just started writing yesterday, and i was wondering why im not receiving any small amount of reward, and it seems that my SP is so low i wont even see it.
then i saw your post and i thought, should have started earlier. never too late to start though

Your SP actually doesn't factor into the rewards you get from writing, those rewards depend entirely on the SP of the people who upvote you. Build a following by positively interacting with others through comments (like you're doing here) and you'll be on your way!

Steemit is growing, there is a lot more activity than there was months ago. As it grows it becomes more like another social platform or the internet as a whole.
If I were to just start blogging on Wordpress or tumblr, I'd probably go weeks at a time without a single view. (And of course no money there either!) Likewise if I just put up a KickStarter tomorrow it would bomb. Preparing a successful crowdfunding campaign is practically a full time job for 3-6 months nowadays!

Steemit provides a platform to monetize work that is extremely frictionless, no middlemen or fees, but the ease of monetization is absolutely going to decline overtime for the average user.

Another hard truth to put it in perspective is that Steem currently has an inflation (creation) rate of about 10%. You have about 75 SP right now. If a year from now you have 82.5 SP, you're doing fine. If you overperform a 10% gain then there are users who must be underperforming that amount and doing worse. Simple as that!

On the positive side... if Steem becomes truly successful, backing a single, or many large platforms (Steemit, Busy, Steepshot, Zappl, ChainBB, dTube, MangoSteem, etc.) then there is the chance for the token to be a hundred or a thousand times more valuable in the years to come! I'm not delusional and know that may not come to pass, but I like to mentally add a few 0s to my payouts anyway! If an article earns 1 USD I think of it as $1,000 in the bank 5 years from now!

In the end everyone has to evaluate their work/reward ratio and decide if it's right for them. Maybe you'll stop writing on Steemit. I honestly believe rewards here are going to be put under pressure when short form (Zaapl, Steepshot) and video (dTube, View.ly) platforms gain traction and compete for the same rewards pool. But you may start using one or many of these other platforms as well because they have a different work/reward ratio or you just plain enjoy them!

I get exactly what you are saying, its the same for me. I'm wondering if its even worth bothering with!

Well as one who is here so I can post things like this https://steemit.com/meshnets/@thelifeofbrian/wanted-crypto-experts-mesh-tecs-organizers-and-community-oriented-people without getting them pulled or blocked as youtube and google love to do ..... I think the platform is priceless at the moment ... but I am a community type of person who spent 6 years and thousands of dollars building a community radio station with his friends ....The value of the platform goes beyond money in many ways ... But you make a point most people are more interested in making a buck so steem will have to make it worth peoples time if is to survive... or we could just change the world ourselves ????
