                                                                           IS STEEMIT FOR YOU?

“I am not sure I could make good contents others will like, I’m just not a writer”. You might reason. You may recall, “I hate(d) writing in school, it’s boring”.

The truth. Everyone has enough potential to write. More so, you have much to tell others and many will like it. The mind and heart is like a treasure house, therein lies what you need to create good contents. You, yes you!

The big answer. YES! Steemit is for everyone! Steemit is for you! Steemit is like a social media that pays you for expressing yourself in a pleasant way. In short, if your post please others they’d ‘upvote’ it and you get paid for the upvotes.

“My post needs to please many”, you may reason, “how can I express myself in a pleasant way? How can I make good content?”

Let go. Go ahead and scribble out your thoughts. Just let go. Don’t think of grammar, punctuation or structure yet. Just record what is on your mind, the text, the emotions, the scene, the pictures, the tune e.t.c. This is like a rough sketch for an architectural plan, it is careless to expect making good content upon hitting your keyboard without your ‘rough sketch’.

Michael Morpurgo, an author, says “Imagination is not something you either have or don’t have. It’s triggered”. Trigger yours and put it down. Anywhere, anytime, with anything…

Add more treasures. As earlier noted, the mind and heart is like a treasure house. We all have a lot in our minds and hearts, interestingly our treasure house cannot be full. After all, we don’t just need ‘a lot’, we need ’a lot of good stuff’. A good way to do this is by reading. Reading may sound boring but can be interesting if we develop the habit. Start from reading brief contents, you’d be surprised you want to continue. You may use the approach of reading what you like. You have a lot in your treasure house but there’s a lot more to get.

Mr. Somerset Maugham wrote in reply about Penelope Lively to her governess Lucy, “If your [Penelope lively] is interested in writing then the best thing she can do is read a lot”. Later Penelope lively, who is a writer, calls that “a perfect answer”, she adds “[that’s] exactly what I’d say myself”.

Make sense. Writing is like expressing yourself and we are all eager to do so when we write. But we need to be modest and careful. Many people would be interested in what you have to say only if they first make sense. It is not only about what we want to say but much about what they’ll like to hear. After you make a ‘rough sketch’, arrange your thoughts in a sequence that makes a ‘flow’.  Make sense. Re-position words, sentences, paragraphs on your ‘rough sketch’ like a puzzle pieces. Take note of your spellings, punctuation and structure.

Author: “Express yourself, but first make sense, and then, design to appeal”

[ make sense or else your audience will go ]

Be informative. Don’t just tell people what they already know the way they know it. Say it in a way that makes them think and that leaves them feeling that going through your content was something worthwhile. Present familiar ideas in a new light.

Be creative. Being creative is not only about coming up with content but also to design, add style and flavor to your content. As earlier said, you need to express yourself in a pleasant way. One way you can do this is to be your first audience, imaging how they’d react to your content. Will they be thrilled, excited, sorry, inspired or bored?  Design your content to accomplish the purpose you want. Use a style that appeals to your audience. For instance you can be informal when writing to a familiar audience of young people. Add some flavor. Ask questions, use illustrations, quote comments of people of interest, use familiar words and obects e.t.c

George Bernard Shaw: “Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imaging, and at last, you create what you will”

Proof read. That may sound like a lot of work. “urrgh… that’s not necessary”, you may say. But would you not carefully take one more look at your face after make-up? You may notice something that needs some ‘touch’ before you go out to the ‘public’.

Yes! Creative writing is for everyone. Steemit is for everyone. It is for you, if you will.
