I’m new! And not entirely sure what I’m doing …

Hello!

This is me! A Brit living abroad and loving every day. Although right now, it’s too hot and I’m sweating too much to sit on my new sofa.

Steemit_profilepic.jpg

So Steemit looks like fun :-) I struggle to find the time to read about how many hours my old school-friends kids’ don’t sleep for and what my ex-work mates are having for their tea so Facebook is little-visited these days. I’m not down with the kids enough to get Snapchat and 140 characters is never enough so here I am. I’ll give it a bash.

What can I bring to the party? Well, maybe just waffle but I like to read and write about photography because that’s what I’ve done for the last 11 years. I’m a bit of a fitness freak and diet fiend although the shape of my body doesn’t always look testament to that! As I said, I’m an expat living in Umbria Italy so all things Italy and travel in general interests me. I love Asia.

I also sell boxes. Doesn’t float your boat? OK, I won’t write much about that.

OK, bring it on …

Welcome on Steemit! 😎

Thank you :-)

Welcome from equally sweltering Costa Rica! ... do you by chance have family in west wales? I know 3 families in Wales with the surname Turner!

Costa Rica - wow! I bet that's a nice place to live. Oddly, my maiden name was Lazarus and my family originate from South Wales. I have married into the Turners but my husband's family isn't linked to Wales in any way. So, the answer is kind of yes but no ...

Welcome to steemit

Cheers!

Hey and welcome to Steemit :)
A Brit Steemian here also so I'm hoping I can help out a bit. Steemit is a bit of a learning curve but it's great fun.

As the Welcomebot says. Make sure you get Discord and go to the PALnet channel https://discordapp.com/invite/HYj4yvw
It's a great place and for new Steemians and there's loads of people that will be happy to help.
Also, check out what myself and others at #promo-uk are doing. We are working on getting more Brits to the channel!
Finally, there's also a #TeamGB started that is a bit of fun for SteemWars :) that are looking for new members :)

Enjoy!!

Thank you for the kind welcome, for the tips and links. I'll certainly check them out in order to try and gain some semblance of understanding!

I'm not much of a photographer myself, but I frequent many of the photog blogs here. There is a lot of quality work and I look forward to seeing yours! What subjects are you most interested in photographing? Also, feel free to write about boxes. I follow a guy who writes mostly about watches. Who knows? Might be more popular than you think.

I photograph weddings first and forecast. I'll write more about it as I go but when we first moved to Italy, over 10 years ago, we found that lots of English-speaking foreigners choose to marry here (great food, great wine, great weather, beautiful castles, the romance etc etc - nothing not to like!) but there were very few English-speaking wedding photographers. We have formed our own little niche in the market and the business has succeeded. I photograph children and families too. I'll start posting some photographs :-)

Wow, that does sound like it would be a lucrative opportunity. I understand the appeal of Italy. I have been to Rome and Venice. Never shall I ever have the money to host a wedding there, however! I suppose it might be a little easier if one is not an ocean away. All the best!

Yes, that Ocean is quite a big one!!

glad to see you Amyturner I hope you enjoy your time here, its a great community :) Nice post, i will follow your account, please follow me ...

Thank you so much for the kind welcome. See you around ... :-)

Welcome! Also what kind of boxes do you sell if you don't mind me asking....

Oh my Gosh - I'm so pleased you asked about the boxes - lol!!! I work part-time for an Italian company who fabricate boxes - predominantly the pretty / gift-set style boxes for the cosmetics industry. I'm the only English speaker in the company and sell to and look after English clients. This is our website: http://www.ramacartotecnica.com/#/
You'll see that we can make boxes for food too - biscuits, chocolates etc and also wines and oils etc. Out of interest, why do you ask?

This photo just shines, it is visible your power is so good, as well as appearance.

What a lovely comment. You're so very kind. Thank you :-)

Welcome! Italy is an amazing place and as much as I like the U.K. it lacks the gloom from the difference in weather. You may want to go with your experiences as an expat would be greatly appreciated to all. Not everyone has a chance to leave their home town let alone live in another country.

As for boxes I'm sure they are interesting for the first sentence or two...lol. All of the best as I'm sure you will enjoy yourself while here.

I think I'm rather enjoying myself on here already! Thank you so much for the kind welcome and you're absolutely right - we're so lucky to have such freedom of movement and opportunity. 10 years of living in a very rural part of Italy hasn't always been easy and comes with many a silly story. I'll start sharing ;-)
