So for a second post, I want to talk about my passion and the things I do on campus while studying for a degree in English and Literature.
I came across this magazine when I was still seeking admission into the university and I wanted to be a part of something amazing on campus. The position was open to students only, but I was so determined that I applied before my admission came through.
I went in for the interview/briefing session. It was more like a discussion session instead and I met with some amazing minds.
Spec Magazine started off as a group of photography enthusiast and then a Magazine was birthed.
L E S S O N S
- Working with a team is quite demanding and it teaches you a lot of things.
The world is populated by different species of individuals and for one to make a meaningful progress, one has to work with a team.
It is quite straineous to subject your ideas to a group of people when you aren't so sure of whether or not they will see the picture the way you look at it. Sometimes it is scary to know that they may come up with an excuse not to execute your 'well-thought-out' ideas.
Working with this team has taught me a lot. It has opened my mind to more capabilities that I wasn't aware of prior before now. It has open to me more leadership responsibilities. For one to lead one has to be emotionally intelligent, and this I have learnt, to an extent, from this team of individuals with diverse emotional dispositions.
- Following instructions
For a team to work effectively, everyone must follow through with instructions set down. I have been a solo artist for a while and it is quite restraining to subject oneself to the ideas of others and to see that an idea is implemented even when one fails to see the importance of the idea.
Following instructions is crucial to the growth of any project. And I have learnt that.
- Professionalism
Working with SPEC MAGAZINE has taught me professionalism. Sometimes I let emotions get in the way of my job and it kind of affects the overall productivity of the team. But the thing about working in a team is that everyone is out for the best of others. And so we all get scolded just so we produce quality contents and ideas that not only set the magazine at the top, but the individuals that makeup the team.
- Values of Family
We stick to each other no matter what. We have been through a lot as a team. Trying to fit into a system that was laid down prior to we getting on the team. We have quarrelled and nagged but somehow we find that we are more than just a group of persons but a family of people that care for one another.

Students need extra cash, more so, they need a platform that offers practicality in growth.
I know a lot of writers and content developers on campus who do not get any kind of recognition for the good contents they put together. It would be an exciting opportunity to get these students on this platform creating quality contents that would end up earning them cash, making them self reliant and also gain recognition in the global space.
