[Scam Alert] FAKE Ned Scott scammed me for 5 BTC - Please help !!!

in steemit •  8 years ago  (edited)

Hi all - I've been scammed. Someone posting as "Ned Scott" (whom I interviewed on my podcast a few weeks ago) contacted me on Twitter. He said that they were reaching out to "social media influencers" to get feedback on their community. Since I LOVE STEEM, I decided to help out. Afterwards, they were offering discounted STEEM in return.

I didn't realize this Twitter account was just created in Sept 2016 and now I'm out quite a bit of BTC. Am I naive? No. Was I quick to act on this b/c I just interviewed Ned and think he's a great guy and want to help STEEM however I can? Yes. I was a sucker and I got taken for a ride.

Can you please help me by voting this up so that I can actually earn some STEEM and re-coop my loses?

Hm, thats a sad story. Would you believe Bill Gates would offer you some discounted stock in Microsoft, if he would contact you on Twitter?

On the other hand, there is an individuum with a very similar story on BCT, which was funny to follow. He claims to have been scammed out of 10 BTC due to a Slack conversation he had with an imposter, pretending to be the head honcho of IOTA.

yeah, it sucks. The timing was unfortunate.

Can't believe you actually send him the money...

yeah, i hear ya.

I have heard of people sending 75 BTC for scams like this, people get greedy and they don't thnk it through.

Dam it, I just heard about this account on Twitter earlier in the week. Somebody was warning everyone. If Ned or Dan upvoted this post at least you can get some of it back.

I've reached out to Ned...I really hope they find this post. I actually expected the STEEM community to rally around this a bit and vote this one up....

this has already been posted and upvoted before on here, so guessing folks aren't as sympathetic to seeing it again. sorry to hear about it though

"Afterwards, they were offering discounted STEEM in return." No honest Devs would be doing that. I get people pretending to be me with broken engish trying to do discount trades all the time, and almost always with something with great potential and trending up. Why would I offer discounts? Why not just put for sale higher up on exchanges if Bitcoin is needed? This is one of the most common scams in crypto, discount OTC trades by imposters. The other is joining some groups where they charge Bitcoins, and then people find out the group is just collecting Bitcoin from suckers.

They did a clever trick with the Maximum of 5 BTC, that is using scarcity to trick people into thinking they are getting a really special rare offer. Buyer beware!

exactly. Pretty good scam. I just hope the Steemit community can come together and bail me out...
