How To Grow Your Network And Become Successful On Steemit

in steemit •  7 years ago  (edited)

One of the most important things you can do on Steemit and in fact pretty much anywhere is to grow your network of like minded people.

The easiest thing to do is up-vote and resteem other people's content that you like but as you know you are limited on the number of upvotes per day and too much resteeming is just going to clog up your feed and possibly scare away the followers you have already acquired!

What Else Can You Do?

A really powerful way to grow your network is to comment on other's posts that you haven't connected with before (as well as those you have of course!).

As you can see one comment can generate as much revenue as an upvote but that's not the goal of commenting it's just an added bonus!

Spend time reading the posts and comment with something genuine not just a throw away comment such as "great post!".

Over time you will gain respect from the community and this will result in more followers, more upvotes & resteems and more opportunities!

How To Find Posts To Comment On

A great way to find posts to comment on is to use something called the "GinaBot" on Discord.

Firstly you have to register with GinaBot by typing "..reg" followed by your Discord name on this channel. You will be asked to transfer a small amount of STEEM (which you will get back) to verify that you are who you say you are and to stop other bots abusing the service.

After you have registered go to the Bot Commands channel and type "..set". GinaBot will then DM you a private link to your settings. Click on the link and work your way through setting what you would like GinaBot to inform you about.

Towards the bottom of the list you will see "Word Match". Here you can enter some words you would like the bot to monitor (a bit like the Google keyword monitoring tool). I use "musicians" & "musicoin" as I am interested in finding other musicians but you can experiment with different words.

Now every time someone posts something new on Steemit you'll get a notification and you can browse down the list and open any that look interesting and then resteem, comment and follow any that are really compelling!

Comments don't cost you anything and can actually INCREASE your bandwidth oddly so don't hold back but BE GENUINE!

Thanks for the heads-up on the Gina-bot thing. I must admit to finding it rather a slow process. I comment sincerely on as many musical artists as I am able to (and that I genuinely enjoy) most simply reply with a 'thanks for the comment,' but rarely do folk go check out my posts. I guess its a matter of time, but it can be disheartening - though enjoyable to listen to and read posts.

It's a bit soul destroying sometimes isn't it!

I concentrate most of my time on supporting the community we have on AtomCollectorRecords.com and on our Discord as we all help each other out and genuinely listen to the music and read all the comments. I only use Gina when I have exhausted everyone from our community.

I plan for this to become my main income provider so I think it's worth the investment.

Your time will come Kryptoe! It's slow to light and slow to burn but you seem to be doing things the right way.

Thanks for this invaluable information. Any help like this is so important to those of us who don't immediately understand the intricacies of some of these sites.

You're welcome. I will do a video on this as part of my series How To Make Money As An Independent Musician at some point too.

Great advice. I totally agree, comments need to be meaningful and show that you've at least read, watched or listened to the post - so often they don't. If you download the Discord App to your mobile, GinaBot is even more fabulous as she can let you know what's going while you are out and about.

Indeed she can. "Gina In Your Pocket". :-)

I'm still trying to get Ginabot to work for me I think I know what I did wrong now!! Good looking out!!

Let me know if you get stuck.

Congratulations! This post has been upvoted from the communal account, @minnowsupport, by AtomCollectorRecords.com from the Minnow Support Project. It's a witness project run by aggroed, ausbitbank, teamsteem, theprophet0, someguy123, neoxian, followbtcnews, and netuoso. The goal is to help Steemit grow by supporting Minnows. Please find us at the Peace, Abundance, and Liberty Network (PALnet) Discord Channel. It's a completely public and open space to all members of the Steemit community who voluntarily choose to be there.

If you would like to delegate to the Minnow Support Project you can do so by clicking on the following links: 50SP, 100SP, 250SP, 500SP, 1000SP, 5000SP.
Be sure to leave at least 50SP undelegated on your account.

Networking and building a community always wins in the end.

Short term gain = long term pain! :P

Hmm interesting, think we ll be taking a look at Ginabot, thank you.

You're welcome. She's very helpful :-)

im gonna look in to this mate thanks again for your ever growing help, it doesn't go unnoticed :)

Thank you for your support!

great article, thanks :-)

You're welcome!

Comments and genuine engagement are the secret weapon to success. Being an author is the most obvious path to a following, but people sleep on how important community engagement actually is.

Great post - can't endorse this idea enough!

Thank you very much. To me it's common sense but 90% of people only think of themselves and are not willing to engage. That's life!

I've mostly built my following by commenting. It really does pay off as your followers are likely to keep on supporting you. I've had some comments pay several dollars, but you have to avoid being annoying :)

Indeed! It's easy to fall into the trap of just posting disingenuous remarks to try and get a vote or follow but that really does backfire in the end.

If one really tales one's time to engage with people they really do find interesting then it pays of big time in the end!

This is nothing new of course and not a Steemit specific thing. It even works when you venture out in to that scary real world! :-)

Great article. I hadn't set the bot up yet but I've done that just now. Thanks for the tips!

You're welcome. We all become stronger together!

How awesome is that!

SuperAwesome!
