Reason many would still prefer facebook to Steemit (My observations)

in steemit •  7 years ago

I have been on steemit for a while approximately 1 month and few weeks.
To be honest with you its not as easy to make money on steemit like many paint it to be.
A lot of work is required. There are strategies and rules you must be willing to follow especially as a newbie.
So if you signed up on steemit basically because you think you would start earning money on the spot, you are wrong. You will get frustrated and eventually abandon your account.

Now here is why i think a lot of people would rather stick to facebook inspite of the money potentials on steemit.

#1 All your friends are on facebook.
Over the years youve worked to build your facebook account adding friends ,family, collegues etc. That was when nobody knew making money posting on social media was possible. Now you have over a 1000 friends or more you connect with. Now the thoughts of leaving such platform or spending less time on them is impossible.

#2 Instant gratification
It is easy to post pretty much anything on Facebook. A selfie of you when you have not woken up yet? Yup, that's 10 likes right there! (maybe more?) I have friends who constantly check Facebook every other minute to see how many likes and comments they have got on their posts and shares. It kind of eats them inside when they do not make a minimum number of likes. We have kind of becomes slaves to the idea of instant gratification. Sometimes, it is mindless scrolling down the feed without any intent.

#3 Facebook appears much easier
Yes, i know you agree. Facebook appears a lot easier. No much technicalities is involved except maybe for higher use. Facebook is a lot easier to navigate and understand, hence why the ordinary man woukd prefer facebook.

#5 A good distraction
I am sure we are all guilty of this. It is easy to open Facebook during a class room session, office meeting, or even when you are just bored and stare at the lives of other people and sometimes wondering what the heck you are doing in your life. Everyone out there is always doing something, and you, poor soul, are stuck in class, office, a traffic jam or at home.

I call facebook the lazy man platform because its easy to just scroll through your newsfeed without really paying close attention to any post but on steemit you have to click to open posts to get the neccessary informations.
I have gotten a lot of information ranging from tech to blockchain, to travel and the rest just playing around steemit.
Do i need to add that my writing skillls have improved. You think you are good until you begin to read posts made by other people, then you will know how much steemit has forced out the authors in several people.

I have found out that my thought process have improved considerably over the last two months. Now, my mind thinks about what the next article could be, and what I should write in it. It is on a constant quest to write better articles the next time.

In my next article, i will be writing elaborately why i think more young people should join steemit.
