We are all just imperfectly, perfect!steemCreated with Sketch.

Ever since high school, I can remember being obsessed with my hair. I have thick and curly hair and usually spend about two hours to get it straight and smooth. It's just something that most people seem to agree about - if you have straight hair, you want it to be curly and if you have curly hair, you want to be straight. I have to admit that I'm never satisfied after a visit to the hair dressers as they never seem to listen to what I want. I would thank them and then spend the entire trip home cursing about what they have done to my hair, just to get home, wash it, and do it over myself.

You won't catch me outside of my house without perfect hair. I don't know why, but it is what it is.

So last night, we visited with a few friends. Like always, it took me a few hours to patch up my imperfections, perfect my hair and we then headed over. We sat outside on the balcony and with the humidity in the air, soon all of our perfect hair and make-up was gone.

One of the men started a conversation about his wife looking so beautiful when her hair curls up in the humidity and the question came up about why women will not accept compliments from their husbands and why they feel "ugly" if they don't look a certain way. This became a huge debate between the men and the women, each defending their reasons and explaining why they feel the way they feel.

To sum it up, it can be said that the men felt that they do not notice our imperfections and it doesn't bother them one bit. The women felt that, after having children and picking up a few pounds we no longer feel as beautiful as we could be or was before and that's the reason why we don't tend to accept compliments from our husbands when we don't feel pretty at that moment.
We then came to the conclusion that just as we don't notice our husbands' imperfections and that it doesn't make them less attractive to us, that it's the same for men.

After all said and done, we then took a group photo just the way we are and after a few tries, we came up with a perfect picture showing off all our imperfections. All of us being beautiful in our own way, unique and without any judgements.

Here we are from left to right... @ghostgtr, @busybeee, me, @joe007, @boldphantom and in the middle his wife "miss eating chips on the bed while I could be steeming" Tessa the undecided...she is yet to decide on a username for her Steemit account...May she find her way soon!

At the end of the day, it didn't matter whether our hair was frizzy or our make-up looked saggy, the fact is, we had a wonderful time and we enjoyed each others company...just the way we are.

beauty to me is portrayed in the person that can embrace their inner beauty!

That's very true. We tend to focus more on outer beauty than inner beauty and we should avoid that. All only human I guess.
Thanks for your comment ;-)

So true.
Just a pleasure

This was such a lovely story and so true, I loved it I know not to ask questions here but thank you for my teamsouthafrica badge lol just do not kow how to use it . was upvoted today by minnowsupport and really happy but seems no one see that I write under teamsouthafrica everyday.

Hi @bdmomuae! I have naturally curly hair, which I also straightened for many years. Until last year when I fully embraced it and gone natural due to the fact that I have gone through 2 successive pregnancies and breastfeeding so I could not risk chemicals harming my small babies.

It took some time taming it, but now even if I am "almost done" breastfeeding, I do not see myself straightening my hair again. :D

Wow @arrliinn, what a great thing to do. Unfortunately, my hair at this stage, is too short to leave curly or I would look like a clown as it's very thick and very curly. Once it's long again, I'll give your plan a go.
Thanks for reading ;-)

Thank goodness I have friends like this, because most of the time I am not in the mood to even get dressed hahaha

That's great @anneke. I still need to reach that point, lol.

Now this was an amazing get together. And even more better to discuss some quite interesting topics. We are all perfect with our imperfections

Can't agree more!

Awesome!!! People are awesome just the way they are :):) Well, most of them at least... that I know... and have met... and so on and so forth :) Love the pic!!

Excellent post... I agree with you;most of us are never satisfied with our looks. Some want to lose weight, others want to gain. Some want straight hair, others want curls. At the end of the day we are all unique and attractive in our own right. By the way, all of u in the group photo look great.

Haha, thank you @practicaleric.

Very good

This is such a ubiquitous story, very well told - and anyway natural always looks so much better than made-up or artificial, your men are right. You should listen to them ;)
