Hey guys!
So I recently saw an interview with @Ned and he appeared to be getting grilled about the quality of content on Steemit.
By all means, the interviewer wasn't wrong. The quality on the trending page can be quite painful to look at. It's pretty bad out there.
That being said, instead of slinking back from the question and promising that things will improve, what he should have done is clapped back with "Yes, content could improve, but, if you look at some of our content, it is coming from all over the world. That is the beauty of it. Sure, some of the content isn't Hollywood material, but for the first time, anyone in any country with a cell phone and an internet connection, can connect to this site, and their content can be seen and upvoted. Those same citizens can potentially feed their families on this "subpar quality content."
I think this would have been a way more heavy hitting response, and I am continually astounded that no one seems to be peddling Steemit this way.
If Steem were to collapse, sure, some First-Worlders might lose their side or full time jobs, but they still have access to lots of other ways to make money. For some around the world, this is the first time ever that they have access to a consistent income that doesn't put them in danger, or force young women into unimaginable circumstances.
I love being able to do this nearly full time, but I recognize that this is so much bigger than me, and how many depend on this site now for their very livelihoods.
THAT is how you promote Steem.
Just some food for thought friends.
Hope you have a Stupendous Saturday!

I think we also have to stop promoting in a an unrealistic way. Many people will be consumers, like youtube , not everyone who enjoys a platform has to be financially supported by it. By promoting it in that way we attract 1. desperate people who want to post vomit there way to income and 2. People with money who want to cram themselves down our throat. If we promote it in a more balanced way, then we will attract smaller investors who find artists they like to support, like an etsy or twitch .

Yes! I totally agree! I just don't think many people know that someone in Nigeria can live off a few small upvotes a day! And until now, that wasn't even a reality! I think Steemit has become a UBI for many people and I know that's not what @ned originally intended, but it's a pretty sweet result! :)

But as far as the first world part of it, yes, artists should know that it's a net not a trampoline and investors the same. We could do well with a bit more balance!

No, but I have many Nigerian friends on here that I follow and talk to! They have told me how Steemit has changed their life. It has changed mine too!

It can change your life here in Nigeria because 50SBD each month is equivalent to your monthly salary in some establishment.
I want to ask for your opinion on how to make it here on steemit? Have been sharing positive post here on steemit with the aim of encouraging / motivating people to propel in life but I don't have the audience.
I comment , replies, post daily but no progress

The system has made and is making Ned more rich. Why would a greedy whale want to change a culture that has provided this fake a cushy life?
@ned you're a fake.

Well regardless of your opinion of Ned, he has also created a place where people can now make money that couldn't before!

That's most of my point. It's mostly about money and money is the sole value of your voice. This means engagement is NOT the goal, just money and monetary value for power.
Look at the majority of the posts. The truth if negative is shunned, while blindly glowing posts about Steemit are rewarded. The case could be made that this platform shuns truth.
This mirrors the biggest failures of our current real life system. There's nothing revolutionary here and it's definitely not contributing to the betterment of society...
Steemit will easily be overtaken in the near future.

Yeah I agree with this, all I want is just to create the content that I want too without the hassle that Youtube seems to bring. And if Steemit/dtube makes it to where I can upload my content full time and potentially grow my channel, then that’s what it’s all about. Creating content that you want.

Yes that's true, but the platform needs more people in order to sustain itself. So this was just a suggestion on how to get more people to the platform.

That's a unique way of looking at the DTube platform. Very good video you got there.

I totally agree @bethwheatcraft. Everyone should have a chance here. It shouldn't be billed as a site about best quality of videos. Alot of people just cant afford the gear. They should be rated on their content, its originality and what it brings to the platform as a whole. 2 thumbs up!
