Be A Cool Kid: Upvote Your Own Sh*t! - [DTube Exclusive]

in steemit •  7 years ago

Hey all!

So, I just wanted to put out there that I upvote my stuff.

If I release a vid, I upvote it!

If I work all night on an MP3 and upload it to DSound, that shit gets an upvote.

If I spend the time watching your content and leaving you an insightful and meaningful comment, I upvote that shit too.

Ya know why?

Because it all takes me time, and time is money, yo!

There is no shame in the upvote game. This isn't Facebook. You don't have to feel like a jerk for "liking" your own stuff.

(That being said, if you do "like" your own Facebook posts, well, we can talk about that another time maybe.)

Listen, we are all here to support each other, and it's good to upvote each other's stuff too! (I do that through the curation trail and manually) but don't forget about numero uno ok?

Ultimately this platform would collapse if it didn't have people, so we have to keep it running. Open up more revenue streams for yourself. Let your earnings snowball and don't discount things like self-upvotes. It really adds up!

Just my two cents friends!

xx~Beth

This made so much sense. I really felt guilty for ever doing the self upvote. I had pulled back on doing it from the self upvote shame stigma. But now that I think about it. Time is money, and if it was wrong or illegal, we would not be allowed the option to do so in the first place. Thats it! From now on I am going to reward myself too! Starting right now!! hehehe Thanks for this Beth.
xoxo

Here's another quarter for ya hahah.
Yeah I have zero shame.
But I was also a starving artist for a while that got sick of the "you're a sellout for making money" mantra, and I really feel like the same can be applied here!

@bethwheatcraft, you bore me in mind while writing this. I love commenting but most authors dislike upvoting.
They would rather selfvote and that's all.
The truth is that I feel ashamed and already rewarded to do that. But I now understand it from another angle.
Thanks please.

Yes authors can be very stingy.

I self-upvote, but I also upvote anyone who takes the time to leave a worthwhile comment! Thanks for your input!

Ha haaa!!! You're right, Beth... this is controversial! I upvote my posts but yesterday was the first time I remember upvoting a comment of mine and it was because I wanted it closer to the top above an award I got from SteemitBoard.

I did see someone who upvoted his comment reply when challenged that he doesn't have to beg anyone for an upvote like he sees many doing because he upvotes himself. I thought that was an interesting point, which is similar to what you are saying... you pay yourself for the time it takes to comment.

Do you upvote the posts that you comment on when you comment, Beth?

That last part is my main issue - I'd love to hear more people's thoughts on the matter.

Yes. Though most of them already have my upvote because they are on the curation trail I delegate to.

The only posts that I don't necessarily upvote if I comment on them are #introduceyourself posts. I try to do a bunch of those every few days if I can, and I try to write meaningful and thoughtful responses and comments to newbies. I wouldn't have any SP left if I always upvoted those, however, I don't always upvote those comments of mine either! :)

Thanks so much for clarifying, Beth.

I'm on day 80 or so here on Steemit, soooo much to learn, including the different perspectives on basics like this. Will be paying more attention to your stuff. ;)

I always go through the #IntroduceYourself post too but I make sure to upvote to encourage because most of them don't make a thing. Before, that upvote was usually $0.00 though. ;)

Recently I got a very kind 100 SP delegation and now my upvote is worth $0.04 on a full tank. I was so happy to be able to give $0.01-$0.03 upvotes to spread it around to more and more peeps, especially newbs.

But when I learned two weeks ago of the dust $0.00-$0.019 rounded down rule, where even comments that are $0.02 may not get paid out, I've increased my upvote on newb comments that don't have any other $$ value upvotes to $0.03-$0.04.

Because I'm still so new I suppose, I remember how it felt to note get a thing for seven long days on many of my posts.

I feel it for those who post their hearts out every day and don't even get one upvote, much less an upvote they'll get paid out on.

It's called investing in your self - no shame in that. When I first started I was apprehensive about doing it - but as my time here goes on I realise ( as you pointed out) it's not the same as liking your own posts on Facebook. That's our pre steemit conditioned minds talking. Keep upvoting your own stuff - now upvoting your own comments - when your vote is worth a shit load - and never voting on other peooles stuff is an issue I have - one user I've noticed - votes on content at 1% and then comments something irrelevant like "right" - which they upvote at 100% - netting them $.25 SBD every time - they do it at least 50x a day. I can't even flag them because their rep is higher than mine and they could tank me really quick.

Anywho - rant over. All the best.

Yeah that would be annoying. I don't think I could ever reward myself for leaving one word haha. Maybe I am too good to myself, but I mean, no one else is looking out for me except me (as far as what I earn) so I have to do my best to make it for myself! :)

I agree with you 110% @bethwheatcraft. If it was illegal to do then you would not have the ability to do it. No shame in it at all.

Yeah, there are far more nefarious things I could be doing on here, that's for sure!

I upvote my own posts, most of the time. I then try to give out the equivalent value once the comments start coming in. I think that's fair. I won't upvote my own comments under my own posts unless it's a special note that I need placed at the top and I'll remove that vote once the message is irrelevant. The community gave me this opportunity. I think if I spent 90k just to come here and only upvote my own shit, that's a different story. I rarely upvote my own comments; unless I feel like being a dick on the trending page.

Haha, to each their own for sure!

Interesting. I hadn't thought about any of that. I shall give it some thought. I appreciate your video. Thanks!

I can't see nothing bad with it :) Curation trail is self upvoting everytime you post.

Looking at things much differently now about upvoting my own posts. Your candor is always refreshing.
I have not felt ashamed for upvoting ,my stuff, just assumed it would be frowned upon by the powers that be.

P.S. Looking good girl!

I vote for you too cos I know you make great content even though I can’t always view or access it.. like the DSound posts you do - I Really want to listen to them but can’t atm.. my phone won’t let me.
