Have you been on Steemit for a while now and noticed that even though you have a lot of followers you don't always get many up-votes or comments?
Well there are a few reasons for it that i can think of.
Your titles aren't engaging or interesting enough to get people to click on
Just because you have 300 followers or 1000 followers doesn't mean they will be interested in everything you post. In fact most of them wont care for 90% of your posts but they stick around for the stuff they like so don't be disheartened.
they're dead followers, they don't use Steemit often or at all.
The follow-for-follow culture
So lets start with number 1.
Your post might contain some great content, knowledge that is valuable to the community or some awesome art/photography but you never get many views or up-votes. This may be because of your title. Is it engaging? does it entice the reader to click on the link and see what you've said? Along with your opening line and photo your title is the biggest key to getting views and getting seen. If it isn't engaging or interesting people have no reason to open it and with the thousands of posts a day the platform generates being seen is incredibly important.
So how to write a good title? well i wont claim to be an expert but whatever the subject is think exciting or informative. If youre writing a post about nature dont have your title as " some nice flowers i saw" or " animals in the forest" Think something like " Stumbled across these beautiful flowers, what do you think? what are they?" (engaging) or "The beauty that is nature, life in the forest"
sorry i thought up those examples on the spot so they may not be the best but the point is to make it seem more exciting!
Number 2
So you got yourself a good number of followers but a lot of them aren't contributing to most of the work you do?
don't stress, unless you're posting exclusively about 1 topic then you're probably going to write some stuff people don't care about. For example i like to post about animals as well as myself/life Steemit and crypto. Those are very different things so i cant expect someone who followed me because of a crypto post to give a shit about my pet rabbit and vice versa.
Some people will follow you just for the way you write or the information you bring regardless of topic but most people have very specific areas of interest so don't worry that some of them don't care. In time you'll get more and more followers who like each aspect of your posting and consistently grow your fan base for every topic.
Number 3
Dead followers! if you've been here for a little while you may have some dead followers, that is people who don't vote or post anything. They either forgot about their Steemit account, made a new one or just gave up on it altogether.
Well today i found a tool to help you with that!
http://steemit.deadfollowers.info/
A website made my @mynameisbrian to help identify who's active and who's not.
The great thing about this tool is that you can see when they last posted as well as when they last voted. Remember just because someone doesn't post doesn't mean they're inactive. They may be here curating good work rather than writing their own and that's just as important
Heres an example of what mine looks like
As you can see it shows that i have 7 followers that haven't posted in over a month. However if you change the search setting to vote rather than follow it looks like this.
That means 3 people just because they don't post doesn't mean they're inactive. check both and see what the difference is.
Its a very handy tool and im glad i stumbled upon it. It doesn't mean a whole lot for me as i've only been here for around a month but if you have been here for a while it might be worth checking out and cutting off the dead weight. just be cautious as people do go on holidays or forced hiatus so ill leave it up to your own discretion.
Number 4
Probably in my opinion one of the biggest ones. The follow-for-follow concept that seems very popular here.
Up until about a week ago i was doing this, however i have noticed that my feed is becoming full of stuff that (without being too rude) i really don't care about or have any interest in.
when people comment hey ive followed you follow me back, now i take the time to go to their page and actually look at what they post about. If it has no value to me personally im not going to follow back. It makes it hard to find the content that i actually like and want to read about.
I think its helpful right at the start when you have no one following you or you're not following anyone but once you get into the groove of things it starts to become more of a problem than a help.
It creates a problem for you too where if you have 1000 followers but most of them are just follow-backs they probably wont care about a lot of what you have to say. You may only get 30-40 votes on a post even though you have a couple hundred people seeing it.
Anyway that's my 2 cents on everything and id like to thank @mynameisbrian again for the very helpful tool.
People like him are very important to Steemit when they create useful tools and help others and it was actually a post by @firepower where i saw someone comment the link on one of his posts.
If you like my stuff please follow and upvote or even resteem.
But remember only do it if you like my stuff otherwise ill be filling your feed with crap you dont care about :)
Happy Steeming
I think follow for follow defeats the purpose of being on the site. Why be here unless you are either posting content or looking for content relevent to you. Gathering a hundred newbies with little interest and no voting power is counterproductive to progressing steemit and the community here.

No you need people who will vote and comment. Thats the best way that I have found to really get involved here and meet people with the same mindset.

I thought about this problem today. It's true, you can have many followers and very little result. I'll try to follow your advice and come up with bright headlines) Thank you very much for the tool in the link!
