Most social media platforms allow fans of a certain content creator to follow or subscribe to their favorite content creator's feed. Steemit has a "follow button" on all of its users' main pages, but the button does not work (yet). Hopefully this button will allow us to get updates when the content producers we follow post new stories. This simple improvement will improve the chances of very good content producers generating a loyal voting audience because of the greatness and reliability of what they produce and weaken the mob rule pile on mentality that seems to help out some less than stellar posts by people trying to seed their posts with mindless vote generating photos and content.
A fully functional follow option will also allow and encourage content producers from other sites to move their followers and content over to Steemit. Until the follow button works there may be some hesitation on the part of content producers from other platforms to move here because their current subscribers don't have a way to subscribe to them here and keep up the momentum that was built on loyalty.

DO NOT BLINDLY FOLLOW
Step one: click the Follow Button on every blog page you can find.
Step two: enter your own name to follow on http://steemstats.com/
Step Three: enjoy the goodness of your own personalized improvized newsfeed.
Step Four: make bets whether @xeroc's piston.web or steemit.com will be the first interface to implement "circles" so you can sort your follow "subscription" into "friends/authors/musicians/colleagues/whales" etc :)

I thought the "Follow" button was a function of the interface but @jesta found out it is indeed stored in the blockchain. Which is neat.

We're all looking forward to this. :) It'll make a huge difference to the consistent producers that have been working on building their reputations.

Agreed and I think many of these features will be added over time. Steemit is so young.

Well if you go to: http://steemstats.com/#/ it appears you can see who you follow at least! You can thank @akareyon for sharing that info in an above comment!

With a working follow system, YouTube audiences will be easily transferable. That alone will drive YouTubers to Steemit to monetize their following. It'll be great!
