Opinion: Upvote, Comment and Resteem Whoring

in steemit •  7 years ago

THIS is a worrying trend I've noticed on steemit. Some will just post a picture of their wall and ask for upvote.

I will never ask my readers to upvote my post. I believe that decision should be left for the readers.

I upvote people's post because I FEEL ITS worth MY upvote not necessarily because they asked for it! I tend to do the opposite when asked to upvote. I ignore.

I can even upvote pictures of your dirty walls, IF it so pleases me. So can we all get along and not ask every reader reading your post to upvote us? Yes? Thank you.

This way steemit will be more fun. I believe if you create an awesome contents, upvotes will flow.

I just like the incentive of earning, as I have participated in many social media with $0 to show for it. But let's not abuse this beautiful platform by whoring for upvotes, comments and resteems.

Have a contrary view? I'll be glad to hear it. Let's see it on the comments below.

Thanks for stopping by and do have a wonderful day :)

I understand what you are saying...However, one must understand we are a global community, one in which it's inhabitants hold differing views upon asking. such as several of the indo-asian community in which it is felt that asking help of others is a sign of community, and not a weakness or something to be looked down upon. As i am sure there are other cultures out there as well who feel the same way. Shaming, or looking down upon those who ask for a little help(especially something as trivial as a steem upvote) is really a western civillization culture, in which we see such as a sign of weakness, or inabillity. If you really stop and think about it, just because they ask fr help with upvotes does not mean you have to comply and upvote them... so in reality, where is the harm in them asking if you are not being forced to comply?? As your post is written it has an elliteist aire to it. wouldn't it be simpler to just ignore the request, than to point out what you see as a flaw? I personally tag at the bottom of my posts that is one feels my content was helpful or entertaining for them to feel free to upvote or follow if they would like more... it isn't a request, as much as it is a reminder to those who, even though they liked the content, can often forget to upvote good content...as many who are on here, aren't necessarily on here for the steem , but rather the content. Me personally, am here for both ...

Aiit, at least we agree at a certain part of the post, the decision to upvote or not is still left to the reader.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my opinion no matter how bad it is :)

oh my, i didn't mean your opinion is bad... it is your opinion and youare welcome to it. My reply was simply my own opinion, and my viewpoint of how it comes across. Don't feel bad for having your own opinion. I was simply posing an alternative view on the subject. Which simply put, is that it is simply easier to ignore those pleas for upvotes than to call them out. especially in such a diverse and multi-cultural forum..

Thanks. I may just have to write another article on that. I love steemit...so many awesome individuals here....better than facebook...at least in my weird opinion :)

Yes I ignore request to up-votes also. It makes them look desperate. I'm looking for good content, entertainment, etc.. Just post good content people will follow. That's what Steem is to me.

That is exactly how I roll :)

ponzi schemes

It's all about being genuine, getting so over bots commenting generic trash...

The bots are taking over...:)

Man i thought i was doing so well when i first started, and then i saw the same people commenting the same shit the whole time...... here i am communicating with them, chatting with them.... to my disgust... they were bots... I think out of my 100 followers 2 are maybe human.....

I was guilty of this. When i first started i wasnt sure how everything works. I thought somehow upvotes effected your reputation. After doing alot more research i discovered this to actually be false. I no longer do this anymore.

I know that there is a getting started section after creating your account but, they should simplify it even more... phrase it more around a social media website than a place to earn money.

That is my issue with it, it's a social media platform first..then money maker second...at least that's how I will like to think of it :)

They need to sell it as a social media platform. Come to think of it.. just google steem or youtube steem, its always the same results. "how to make money with steem" Most of the top curators on steem posts are about making money with steem. So obviously people are going to think its a money making platform first.

That's correct!.....and this money making mentality may just blow the fun away.

100% right on the money (pun intended) :)
