Sending Steem Power to another person using Steemit

in steemit •  7 years ago

Some of you may already know this, but I just found out about it today while looking for an answer to a question from another Steemian, so I thought I would pass it along. In the past, you could only send Steem to another person's account as Steem Power using the command-line wallet for Steem. But the Steemit web site can also do it now, here's the steps:

  1. Go to your wallet page (eg. https://steemit/@my_account_name/transfers)
  2. Click on the amount of Steem in your account and select "Power Up" from the menu that appears.
  3. In the "Convert to Steem Power" dialog, press the "Advanced" button at the bottom of the dialog and the dialog will change to give you the option to send some of the Steem in your account as Steem Power.
  4. Enter the account name and amount of Steem Power you want to send and press Ok, and you're done.

Nice simple guide. Not sure if you did it intentionally...
https://steemit/@my_account_name/transfers -> https://steemit.com/@my_account_name/transfers

Yes, it was a typo, thx for correction!

Hi blocktrades, please how may i contact you. i tried to send SBDs for dogecoin and still haven't received the dogecoin. Does it take so long. Can you please help me check?

Do you know if is this the Steem Power delegation feature announced in the last hardfork? Thanks in advance!

No, this actually gives the steem permanently to the other person as Steem Power, whereas the Steem Power delegation is more like a loan that you can get back later. AFAIK, Steem delegation can only be done from the command-line wallet right now.

Awesome

Thank you for visiting my post. Appreciate.

BTW useful info. Have an inspiration day ;)))

nice guide. send me some. i am new here.

It's a great way to welcome your friends and lock them in as well! Don't forget people!

Yes, I also want Steemit to add the ability to allow users to create accounts for their friends via the web site as well and pre-fund them with some Steem Power. This is possible through the command-line wallet now, but most people don't have access to that.

Yea it needs to be super easy to do...

Thanks for the heads up, I had no clue this was possible ! Thanks @blocktrades :)

Cheers for this. Will come in handy.

A great way to encourage newbies like me to have a long term and meaningful journey with steemit.
And thank you steemit for making it easy for us. Looking forward to be able to share my steem power to people I will invite here .
@blocktrades thank you for sharing this valuable info.

Haha I have send 5.794 SBD to the wrong person, what a bummer.

Oh! Thats sad.. did you contacted the wrong guy to return back?

No he can have it, I'm a generous person you know ;)

If you do such mistake again then i hope next time it will be me to have your generosity lol ☺

Nice post😉

Has support for SBD been pulled from Blocktrades.us?

No, but we were undergoing scheduled maintenance for about an hour about the time you asked this question, so I would guess that's what you encountered. All the wallets are back up now, including Steem wallet.

Awesome! I panicked for a second, Blocktrades is my favorite service for SBD exchange. Thank you for your timely response.

Very concise, easy to understand article!
Following and voted!!
Keep up the great and helpful work!

Whilst fumbling around with my wallet a little while ago I also found out this could be done. Sent some to a member on steemit who encouraged me to join up to it in the first place. Was a pitiful amount but now that I know I can be more generous in the future :-)

i will help other but first i must bild some steem power, but tnx for this

nice your post

How did you get you account to be worth so much in a year ? ... 😮

Steem price has had a nice price increase :-)

this showed up in my history, but not wallet ?
3 days ago Receive 17.540 STEEM POWER from blocktrades
In any case, I'm now a follower :-)
Cheers

It's in your wallet under "Steem Power" instead of "Steem", because it is "powered-up" Steem.

I wish it was but my steem power is the same :-(
other accounts are @ 0
Does the blockchain show the transfer ? I don't know how to look
I any case, I'd like to thank you very much, I'm just getting started here and struggling along, but I believe the future look bright :-)

The transfer you're seeing in your wallet is from the blockchain. You can also view on steemd.com: https://steemd.com/tx/be3aa8d76e8420ada0898d6b6e348a1079c9f7f2

I just did this
3 minutes ago Claim rewards: 0.072 SBD and 0.059 STEEM POWER
thats new to me :-)
And I see your transfer went to " vests"
so you can guess my next question hehe
Thanks

VESTS is another name for STEEM POWER. It's the internal units for STEEM POWER used by the blockchain. STEEM POWER is the "equivalent amount of Steem" for a given number of VESTS. You can convert the VESTS back to STEEM by "powering down".

is there a list of switches and commands somewhere ?
like the /tx/ you used ?
how would I get all info on : STM5rKbmMJomZfE6FF7SuHfXhYSM4rLjU43A19sQLp1WFxbbvdogZ (not real key )
for instance, or my other public keys.
Sorry to bother you again, but been searching all day and found Zilch on the topic :-)
Thanks Brother

what exactly are you trying to do? If you want to see more info about your account, you can use: http://steemd.com/@codypanama or you can try http://steemdb.com/@codypanama

trying to figure out why your most generous gift did not change my account steem power numbers ?
I had 20 something steem power when you gifted me, + 17.540 should have put me in the 30 range maybe 40, I only started my own ledger tonight.
27.608 STEEM
(+106.124 STEEM) < I don't even know what this means LOL
History is incomplete as well, I was given around 9 steem power for opening account, bought .01 BTM in steempower which brought me to 20 something, I wasn't paying close attention err
I'm just getting over a 4 day head exploding cold and not thinking very straight.
Steemdb.com is new to me, I love tools :-)
I'll learn blockchain exploration when my head is clearer
Thanks for helping out

Doh I'm such an ass, I purchased the steem power from you !
I Never gave a thought to who was trading my BTC for steem LOL
I'm a looser, but I'll be alright
Nuff said

Great to see these essential features more accessible now. For a second I thought we need the delegation feature also in the web interface. However I doubt that many will find it useful unless you have a lot of SP.

Thanks for the work here!

Thank you for the post, definitely helps me out, only been on Steemit about a week now. Check me out and follow back if you can, thanks!

Good

Informative post! All the sharing mechanisms need to be thoroughly explained for newcomers like myself.
& thanks a million for the greeting btw!!

Great info! Thank you for the guide. Will try it out when I have more steem....;)

If you want practice I'll gladly accept some STEEM power or SBD. I've only been active a few days but I love the concept.
Thanks

Thank you, good to know

Thanks for update , I knew about this but not how really works :)

Simple and good :)

Very helpful, thank you!

Good post! Thanks for sharing!

Hello @blocktrades,
I am trying to understand how your account works. I see some of the friends I follow sending SBD to your account and I am not sure what the reward is for them, and how this portion of the STEEMIT platform works.
Hope this question is not out of bounds.
Thanks,
Isaac

We are a trader of cryptocurrency and we buy and sell it for our own account. That's the transactions you are seeing. You can trade with us here: https://blocktrades.us

so this is the gateway to convert the SBD I earn into BTC. How cool!

It looks like you just start out with small amounts to build trust.

You have more info on fees and how to instructions?
Thank you,
Isaac

A couple of people have created tutorials, just search on steemit, but hopefully the site is pretty self-explanatory: you pick what you want to pay with, what you want to receive. Then you can enter how much you want to get or how much you want to spend to find out how much it costs. You also have to specify where you want the output sent to. If you are buying BTC, I recommend you do an amount of $10 or greater USD value, because transaction fees for bitcoin can be large now, and it is a fixed cost we charge as part of the transaction.

Yep, that's a nice feature indeed :D

Very nice, thanks

Thanks.
Lot of usefull !!!
I spent days looking for this HOWTO !!
Thanks again.
Regards-

cool

I accidentally sent 12 steem to the wrong address to blocktrades and now it's gone - can you guys please help me out? :/

Sure, sent refund just now!

You guys are awesome - thanks so much! :D

hey there @blocktrades i sent some yesterday yesterday to get converted to bitcoin and never received. can you help? it was my first test..

Sure, refunded the SBD, looks like it was sent to bad memo (probably to a Steem or OPEN.SBD memo instead of a Steem Dollar memo).

yeah i have no doubt i messed it out. i've never taken money out of steem and just wanted to go through the process. i used blocktrades.us but i guess i messed it up.. all i wanted to do was see how long the process took to send to an exodus wallet! - thanks for sending back! :)

Nice. I'm new and still learning this steemit.

Thank you.

So, nice tutorial. I'm always using blocktrade for purchasing also steem power. It's very fast & reliable :)

Great to know, thanks @blocktrades!

Oh~Thanks for it, as a dreaming newbie :)

is this still steem transfer still up and running???

Yes, it still works as described in the post for sending steem power to someone.

@blocktrades you are a rich steemer :) <3

Hi there. Is there a way to do this anonymously? I have another account with a lot of SP and I think it could help me jumpstart this business account. Thank you!

good

Excellent tutorial..
Good information transfer.

@blocktrades i see you are giving SP. I wonder how do i get..!!!

You can buy it from us here: https://blocktrades.us

Thanks for your reply.. i will check!

Great! Thanks to this✌

I'm new here.....guiding and enlighten me about steemit will be appreciated..thx

Wow, didn't know that! I knew you could send SBD but not actual Steem Power. Thanks for the tip :)

@blocktrades
Hi,
I sent you 20 steem to send to my external Steem wallet.
But no sign of it - I don't see what I could have something wrong as all I did was out the wallet address in the memo field.
Please advise.
Regards,
James

You should have the transaction hash where we sent the funds on our web page. If lost the page, I recommend you create an account so that you can see a history of your transactions. Funds were sent here: https://blockchain.info/tx/9f6d615ce7055d85c1cb4ddfd673fa0b1c7fcab3a0b25cc81e3263d9d81f2c1e

Great thanks for that link. I've found the transaction now. I have various accounts and I wasn't looking in the right place.

Great tutorial :D Helped me a lot :)

thanks for this post its so easy now to make this operation;)

Thank you just starting out myself.

Amazing! I didn't know it is possible @blocktrades

Helpful info. Thank you @blocktrades

Great article man! Thanks for it! @blocktrades

Wow was weird information I didn't even know you could do that thanks for the how to step by step

Nice information, im new bee here, i hope keep learning here

nice post!

this has been working for more than 6 months :D

Honestly, I'm not surprised that that is the case. I always use the cli wallet to send funds, so it's never come up for me till today when I was asked about it. I'm glad it was added, since it's kind of a cool way to gift some Steem and encourage participation at the same time.

To be fair its been crazy lately with the new influx of newcomers and how many steps back you some times have to think and see it from their perspective when they ask some questions that for us active Steemians nowadays are obvious and we don't even think about it.

Yeah no kidding.. I'm confused as hell right about now.

Great info for newbies like me right now.

That was very helpful, thanks! :)

@blocktrades appreciate your efforts in putting useful information in this post. Very useful for freshmens!

great

Following your blog so that I can learn how to navigate in Steemit. I still dare not do anything about the wallet. I am not clear how to go about it. A complete beginner, but I need to know all the new stuff! Thanks for your posts.
